Everything you need to know about the new Cobra DS-ADAPT range and FUTUREFIT33 technology
Published:
Cobra’s new DS-ADAPT drivers are focused on making clubs more fittable, more playable, and giving golfers all the speed they possibly can.
Cobra are known to produce some of the best drivers on the market, and their 2025 products certainly live up to that expectation with their innovative technology. Before heading to Sotogrande for the press launch of the Cobra DS-ADAPT range, we’d already seen four new drivers appear on the USGA conforming list due to tour players wanting to put them in play before the end of the year. Tour players being so keen to put new clubs in their bags ahead of an official release is usually a sign that the design or technology being unveiled is something quite special. However, when rumors of a hosel with over 30 different loft/lie combinations started swirling, I have to say I was a little dubious.
It’s a bit of a wild concept when you think about it. A standard adjustable hosel has maybe 6 to 8 options, removing or adding loft in degree, so to think there was a possibility Cobra were going to be bringing out something with four times the amount of options, it didn’t seem doable. It also made me wonder just how much difference such minute changes could make to the ball flight.
Sitting down in front of Jose Miraflor, Vice President of Marketing, as he revealed FUTUREFIT33 and the hosel technology that has been years in development at Cobra, it soon became evident as to why DS-ADAPT could be suitable for practically every golfer.
FUTUREFIT33 hosel technology
Cobra’s last adjustable hosel, MyFly8, has now been around for ten years, having first been introduced in the Cobra AMP Cell driver in 2013. The MyFly8 hosel quickly became a hallmark of Cobra’s drivers, giving players unprecedented versatility to fine-tune their performance to match different playing conditions or personal preferences.
When the time came to create a new adjustable hosel system, the R&D team at Cobra wanted to go further than ever before, and created FUTUREFIT33, the most flexible fitting system, and the first adjustable hosel system that allows for loft and lie to be changed independently from one another. There are 33 unique loft and lie settings that can be adjusted quickly and easily.
“33 settings is more than four times our previous hosel system and more than double our nearest competitor,” said Jose Miraflor, VP of Product Architecture and Consumer Connections at Cobra Puma Golf.
The new adjustable hosel features two rings, one labelled A to H, and one labelled 1 to 8, accompanied by labels to show the adjustments being applied at each setting. It is, by far, the most complex and informative hosel I’ve ever seen.
How does FUTUREFIT33 work?
FUTUREFIT33 works on what Cobra referred to at the press launch as the fitting ‘mandala’, which as well as being the concept that club fitters will use to find the right settings for you, will also be available via a QR code on each DS-ADAPT club, a touch that has ensured FUTUREFIT33 is accessible to all golfers, regardless of their ability to reach a fitter.
Speaking to me at the launch of DS-ADAPT, Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D at Cobra-Puma was clearly proud of how much positive feedback they had received from tour staff and club fitters, and how they were able to put the fitting technology into the hands of the player.
“We also developed a QR code with a system to allow you to diagnose your swing easily. We know that the technical golfer will do that themselves. We saw it here on the range where you got a specific ball flight, we could dial it in better for your swing.”
Olsavsky did emphasize though, that whilst the FUTUREFIT33 system will allow better players and those seeking a more fine-tuned shot shape to make tiny tweaks to their club setup, the main user of the adjustability feature will be the fitters. Having such a range of options available in one product will inevitably allow them to establish the ideal loft and lie for each golfer at the fitting stage.
The most important thing to note is that you always start with the hosel at position A1, which is neutral. You would then hit 10-20 shots to gather a selection of shots for the fitter to gain an insight into your natural shot shape, and anything you wish to counteract or enhance.
Imagine you’re looking out onto a driving range, and the mandala is visible in front of you above the ground. Together with your fitter, you want to identify the closest slot that your ball goes through the most often.
If your natural ball flight is a high push, and you want to counteract that to achieve a more neutral trajectory, you simply set the hosel to the opposite of the slot your ball flight goes through. For example, if your shot shape is B6 then you would change the hosel to F2. If you’re happy with the height of your drive, but it’s pulling too far to the left at E1, you would set your hosel to A5 to counteract the pull.
The mandala also shows you the adjustments that happen when a setting is changed. For example if you start with a 10.5 degree driver head in A1 position, and move the hosel to position B6, the configuration increases the loft by 1.4 degrees to 11.9, and the lie of the head 1.4 degrees flat.
It’s an incredibly simple concept, but one that truly works. I had a 20-minute session with one of the Cobra fitters out on the launch in Sotogrande, and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. My natural shot shape is a slight fade, which was reflected in the ball flight from the shots I hit with the hosel position A1, in a 10.5degree DarkSpeed Adapt Max-D driver head.
The fitter suggested my trajectory was between A8 and C4 on the mandala, so moved the hosel to position D3 to start with, followed by E4 to test the difference. My flight was much straighter with both of these settings, but still a little higher than I’d like to see, so the hosel was moved again to F4. Once this setting was dialed in, taking my loft down to 9.1 degrees, my ball flight was penetrating, pretty straight and a few yards longer than the drives I hit in the neutral A1 position.
Thinking back to my initial reservations about the hosel, it was now clear that FUTUREFIT33 really is a step into the future of custom fitting golf clubs.
All of the new Cobra DS-ADAPT drivers, fairway woods and hybrids are fit with FUTUREFIT33 technology. Let’s take a look at what you can expect from this new range, and the options available to you.
Cobra DS-ADAPT Drivers
The new DS-ADAPT drivers are packed with advanced technology to deliver speed, forgiveness, and unparalleled customization for golfers of all skill levels. Featuring progressive aerodynamic shaping, these drivers reduce drag, boosting swing speed while catering to player-focused needs.
