Golf super star Colin Montgomerie will wear cashmere sweaters and shirts produced by Hawick-based Peter Scott & Co. this season.
The company pulled off a major coup in landing a sponsorship agreement with Scotland’s leading international professional golfer.
The deal is the first phase of an ambitious drive by the 129 year old company to develop its brand as a leading player in the golf-wear market.
Nick Bannerman, Managing Director of Peter Scott & Co, is confident the sponsorship agreement with Monty will be a major advantage in their drive to double the value of their golf-wear to 50 per cent of the firm’s turnover.
He explained: “Our aim is to grow our market share of the luxury cashmere sector in Europe, America and Japan. Linking up with Colin is a tremendous boost to achieving our objective.”
“He is a world class golfer who will bring us global exposure and brand recognition. In return Colin will be associated with Scottish cashmere garments of the highest quality anywhere in the world. It is the perfect match.”
Mr. Bannerman added: “Even though many of the world’s top golfers already wear products manufactured by us our branding doesn’t appear so we remain one of Scotland’s best kept secrets. It’s time to reveal this secret to the golfing world.”
He continued: ”We also supply many of the UK & Eire’s major golf resorts including Turnberry, Gleneagles, Carnoustie, Royal Troon, St Andrews Links Shops, Ballybunion and all Open Championship venues embroidered with their club crests. Our partnership with Monty will be met with delight by them.”
Now the company’s strategy is to promote its own highly distinctive Stag logo as a world leading brand in its own right.
Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in the United Arab Emirates, Colin Montgomerie said: “I am delighted to be joining the Peter Scott team – they have been delivering the highest quality knitwear to the golfing fraternity for many years and, to me, they are the leaders in the field.”
