Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley is turning his hand to course design.

He is creating an 18-hole course at Macreddin Golf Club in Ireland’s County Wicklow, south of Dublin.

Macreddin is the final part of the Macreddin Village complex, set in a valley and featuring holes lined by mature birch and spruce trees.

McGinley said: “I’m very proud that the course I have designed is to be associated with some of Europe’s best championship venues and with such a prestigious group.”

Macreddin will open for play in 2007.
