Eric Hardwick of Highwoods (Bexhill) GC is the first serving club captain to be honoured with an MBE in this year’s Queens Birthday Honours List – putting him up there with the likes of Ian Woosnam and Gary Wolstenholme.
Eric’s been a member at Highwoods for 38 years but it’s for his services to the Hastings half-marathon that he’s been honoured.
Not one to blow his own trumpet, Eric was startled to discover that news of his gong had reached the ears of Highwoods manager Austen Moran, who announced it to the rest of the members at the club prize-giving.
Eric said he was doubly proud to receive the accolade in his captaincy year and at the start of his captain’s week events at the club he loves.
