Ian Woosnam is guaranteed a great reception when he returns to the K Club next month, just eight months after leading Europe to a record-equalling Ryder Cup triumph over America at the Ireland venue.
Welshman Woosie is a confirmed starter for the Irish Open which is being staged at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort on May 17-20. It’s the first event on Irish soil since the Ryder Cup rout of the Yanks and also set to play is Scot Sandy Lyle, one of Woosie’s Ryder Cup assistants.
Said Woosie: “I’m really excited about returning to Ireland – I’ll never forget the experience of that wonderful week at the K Club and the fantastic reception we received rom the Irish fans.
“It was the greatest week of my career and the fact that it was in Ireland made it all the more special.”
Woosie will be confident of giving a good account of himself and is no stranger to individual success in Ireland either, having celebrated back-to-back Irish Open wins at Portmarnock in 1988 and 89.
