Hybrids: One club, five shots – Chipping
5. Chipping |
It’s a shot that a lot of amateurs might be afraid of but, particularly if you’re a long way from the pin, a hybrid around the green is an effective choice. Choosing a lofted club is risky, using a mid-iron to play a bump-and-run requires crisp striking and a putter from distance can snag up and come up short. With a bit
of practice, a hybrid should give you consistent striking and distance control.
Eliminate the hands |
Use your body |
|
You might take a putting-style grip, but try not to replicate a putting stroke. The long shaft means your eyes are too far away from the ball for this to work. Simply focus on keeping your elbows close to your chest and turning your top half back and through smoothly. |

We want the ball just forward of centre. Making sure the left hand is neutral – like a putting grip – takes the hands out of play. From there ensure the shaft and left arm are in a straight line. This set-up means the body can control the stroke. |
