It’s week five in our ‘Golf Tip Of The Week’ series and this week we’re looking at how to stop the flying left elbow in your swing. This common swing fault robs you of power and accuracy.

HOW TO KEEP THE CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUR ARMS AND BODY…

PGA pro Dan Frost, Swingers golf driving range, shows you how to keep the connection between your arms and body in your golf swing.

STEP ONE
Start by removing the headcover from your driver and placing it under your left armpit. Squeeze the headcover gently in towards your side to prevent it dropping to the ground.

STEP TWO
Make a few gentle half swings back and through and really focus on keeping the headcover squeezed under your arm pit. If it drops to the ground your arms have lost connection with the body.

STEP THREE
Allow the arms to swing down in front of the body so that you reach a classic impact position. The left arm should form a straight line with the club shaft – the two blending into one straight line.

STEP FOUR
Extend your left arm and the club through towards the target, keeping the headcover squeezed under your arm pit. This will ensure your elbow doesn’t fly wide away from the body as you swing through.

STEP FIVE
Practice these moves four or five times slowly until you get the correct sensation of the arms staying close to the body and then take the headcover away and repeat the same swing sensation.

STEP SIX
Gradually build up to making full swings. You should now have a compact, technically sound swing.
