This comes down to understanding the effect the clubface and path have on the ball’s flight and knowing how to adjust it. Under the new ball flight laws proved by Launch Monitor data, the clubface predominantly controls the initial direction and the club path controls the curve.
Being able to control your low point also gives control over path. Then, all the player needs to understand is the required face angle to hit the shots they want.
From a square alignment you can hit any shape by altering ball position, which changes the path. For example, you’d move the back back in the stance to negate a slice or hit a draw because the path becomes more in-to-out.
