Cut Your Score 3 – Use your 3-wood

Sometimes the lie in the fringe is just too fluffy to risk taking a putter. But at the same time are you worried that a wedge might get snagged up in the grass? Using the 3-wood as an alternative to the putter is a great idea. Scott Cranfield shows you how to play this versatile golf shot.
USE YOUR 3-WOOD TO CHIP AROUND THE GREEN
Using your 3 wood or a fairway wood is a good alternative to your putter or wedge when in the rough around the green, especially if you’re nervous.
Hold the wood in your normal putting style with a very narrow stance. You need this narrow stance to create a pivot for the lower half of your body. You then match that with a smooth, rythmical, symmetrical swing.
Whatever you do, don’t try and ‘hit’ the shot because the ball will fly off far further than you intend it to. By following the shot through, the impact is less sudden and the golf ball will them bump and roll towards the hole.
