The One Foot Waggle Iron Play Tip
Last updated:
You may have notice that before I play most shots that I’ll draw the club away from the ball by about a foot and then return it back to address. I carry out this little routine for two reasons.
Firstly, I focus on taking the club away so that my shoulders, arms and clubhead are all that moves. My hips stay very still. This is to remind me to start the swing with my upper body so that I can maximise resistance. The upper body turns, but the lower body resists.
Secondly, it works as a trigger, a type of waggle, that settles me down and gets me mentally ready to play the shot.
If you make a move like this before you commit to your actual swing, you’ll find that you can stay a lot smoother in the takeaway.
