Strike Your Irons Better
Last updated:
The key to powerful and penetrating iron shots is a contact where the ball is compressed with a downward blow, ball then turf.
By understanding how your irons are designed, you will be well on the way to hitting your irons longer and straighter. Remember, irons are designed to sit in a forward position, with the shaft pointing toward the left shoulder. This lean in the shaft needs to be repeated at the impact position, ensuring a downward path and crisp contact.
If you’re struggling to achieve this, try this top tip from TG’s Steven Orr. Place a golf club on the ground and try and move it forward with an iron. You’ll notice that the club automatically leans in order to move it. Give it a go, it’s sure to add yards to your iron shots.
