Stop Slicing Instruction Video

Want to learn how to stop slicing? Then you can’t afford to miss part one of our Tip of the Week golf instruction series.
The weekly golf tuition video series, which is published each Wednesday, aims to improve all areas of your game by capturing the techniques used by some of the best golfers on the planet.
In this, our first Tip of the Week video, PGA Pro Dan Frost shows you how to eliminate the slice from your game forever.
You have two choices of how to learn too – you can either sit back and watch our video below or read on to get the text version of techniques needed to avoid the right side of the golf course (of the left for all you lefties!).
How to stop slicing:
1. A slice can be caused by several factors, but one of the most common is poor release of the golf club. By swinging through, not rotating your arms and keeping the club head low it means you leave the golf club face open and you therefore impart a left to right spin on the golf ball. The finish position in the image here is how a lot of people come through the ball.
Your ideal through position should actually look more like this:
2. To stop this from happening you need to release the club down the target line and swing through so your arms extend fully in front of you like the image above.
3. A good way of training yourself to do this is to stick a garden cane about 18 inches in front of your set up position in line with your laces, like in the image here.
4. Now take your normal backswing but slow it down and keep it controlled so when you come through the ball you can easily visualise where your hands should finish in front of you. If you hit the bottom of the cane you’re not releasing properly. The aim is to try and hit the top of the cane with your wrists. Practice hitting shots like this and it will soon become second nature. It will even help you shift your weight through the swing too, helping you achieve good ball flight and distance too!
