The 2026 Solheim Cup captains have been named. Here’s who has got the nod to lead the European and American teams in the Netherlands
After Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis led their teams out in consecutive years, the 2026 Solheim Cup captains have been named as the competition moves back into it’s regular two-year cycle.
The hosts will be looking to get back to winning ways following a 15½-12½ defeat at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in 2024 proceded a 14-14 tie in Spain 12 months earlier that had seen the Europeans retain the trophy for the longest period in Solheim Cup history.
The 20th Solheim Cup will take place at Bernardus Golf, a Kyle Phillips-designed heathland in the Netherlands, from September 11-13, 2026.
Who is Team Europe’s 2026 Solheim Cup captain?

Anna Nordqvist, who was as a playing vice-captain in both of those tournaments under Suzann Pettersen’s stewardship, has played in every Solheim Cup since making her debut in 2009, earning 18.5 points from a possible 35 in that time. She is also one of the most successful golfers of her generation, winning three of the five women’s majors, as well as nine other titles on the LPGA and LET.
“I am so honoured to be appointed as the 2026 European Solheim Cup captain,” Nordqvist said. “Whether we were winning or losing, the Solheim Cup has played such a huge part in my career ever since I made my debut in 2009 in Chicago.
“The friendships I have made, and the memories created during the nine matches I’ve played make it so incredibly special to be given the opportunity to be European Captain at my tenth Solheim Cup.”

The LET’s CEO, Alexandra Armas, said Nordqvist “has been such an important member of the European team over the years – both on and off the course”.
Armas added: “She has been a wonderful ambassador for European golf throughout her career, both as an individual and as part of the team, and I can tell you that the news of this appointment will no doubt be extremely popular among the players.”
Who is Team USA’s 2026 Solheim Cup captain?

After three turns as an assistant captain, Angela Stanford will take the helm for the first time in 2026.
Stanford, a major champion thanks to her one-stroke victory at the 2018 Evian Championship, is a six-time veteran of the American squad.
“I’m extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game. I’ve always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honor than representing your country,” Stanford said. “I consider this the pinnacle of my career, and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands in 2026.”
Interim LPGA commissioner Liz Moore believes Stanford “will be a wonderful captain.
She added: “Angela has always been a spark on and off the course, a true leader and a dedicated partner to her teammates. It’s now her time to take the helm of the US team, and I have no doubt that she will lead her squad to a successful week.”
