A concept of how T-Squared Social in St Andrews may look

The best town in golf is about to get even better with the launch of T-Squared Social.

St Andrews isn’t short of excellent places to enjoy a drink, with the famous Jigger Inn and The Dunvegan perhaps the pick of a very strong bunch. But golf’s most famous town looks set to get a new addition, after Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods announced plans to renovate a historic St Andrews cinema in order to open a luxury sports bar.

If plans are approved by Fife Council, the New Picture House on North Street – less than a third of a mile from The Old Course – will be transformed to house golf simulators, duckpin bowling, and darts. It will also retain one of the existing cinema screens to show sporting events.

The bar will be named T-Squared Social – referencing “Timberlake” and “Tiger” – after a similar venue of the same name opened in Manhattan, New York, last month.

Woods said he and Timberlake came up with the idea during a round of golf at their development in the Bahamas: “Justin and I thought it would be cool to create a place that combines our favorite things and brings people together to just have a great time.”

Woods has a special relationship with St Andrews, having won the first two of his three Claret Jugs there, at the 2000 and 2005 Open Championships.

He bid an emotional farewell to fans there during the 150th Open in 2022, saying: “I don’t know if I will be physically able to play back here again when it comes back around. I’ll be able to play future Opens, yes, but next time here, I doubt if I’ll be competitive at this level.” 

On T-Squared Social’s possible launch in Scotland, he said: “I have been fortunate enough to enjoy many special moments here at St Andrews. We all wanted to bring our T-Squared Social concept to St Andrews to add to the local community and be a welcoming place for those living in St Andrews and for visitors alike.”

Despite Tiger’s limited playing appearances these days, his influence on the game remains enormous. We looked at four ways Tiger Woods changed the game of golf.

Pop star Justin Timberlake is a very keen golfer, with a handicap of around 1, and played St Andrews during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2019.

He said: “I’m honored to be able to invest in the town and bring our second T-Squared Social here. Our new venue is so much more than a typical sports bar experience – it’s a place you can go to be entertained without sacrificing quality or comfort.”

The bar is slated for a 2024 opening and will become a must-visit for golf fans when in St Andrews.
