The Players Championship 2023: Tee times and groups for TPC Sawgrass

Tee times and groups for The Players Championship – ‘the fifth Major’ – as Rahm, McIlroy, and Scheffler are grouped together at TPC Sawgrass.

Jon Rahm will go head-to-head with his World No.1 rivals at the Players Championship after being grouped with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler for the opening two rounds of the PGA Tour’s flagship event at TPC Sawgrass.

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy will play together at The Players Championship.

All three Major winners could end the week as World No.1 after McIlroy narrowly missed out on the chance to return to the top spot at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, finishing a shot behind eventual champion Kurt Kitayama.

McIlroy is looking to become the first two-time winner of the PGA Tour’s flagship event since Tiger Woods, while Scheffler is hunting a second victory of the season after successfully defending the Phoenix Open last month.

Scottie Scheffler will be aiming for his second win of the season at The Players Championship.

Rahm remains the man in form with five wins from his last 10 starts, though he did show signs of fallibility at Bay Hill after letting a first-round lead slip with back-to-back rounds of 76. He eventually fell back into a tie for 39th – his worst finish worldwide since the 2022 Scottish Open.

The other featured group will see 2021 winner Justin Thomas teeing it up alongside Jordan Spieth and Ryder Cup hopeful Max Homa for the first two days at TPC Sawgrass.

Cameron Smith won't be defending his Players Championship title.

Defending champion Cameron Smith, who is suspended from the PGA Tour, and Tiger Woods, who is playing a limited schedule in 2023, are the notable absentees from the 144-player line-up, which still includes 43 of the world’s top 50.

The star-studded field will be competing for $25 million, the richest prize on the PGA Tour. The winner will pocket $4.5 million, up $900,000 on last year and more than Charles Howell III won at the first LIV Invitational event of the season.

The 17th at TPC Sawgrass, home of the Players Championship.
