How many of the PGA Tour’s finest will make it to the weekend at TPC Sawgrass? Here are the Players Championship cut rules.
It’s the PGA Tour’s flagship event and it carries the biggest single tournament prize pot in golf – so making the weekend is more important than ever. But what are the Players Championship cut rules? Well, you’re in the right place.
Players Championship cut rules
The Players Championship might be the biggest tournament outside of the majors, but it still follows the PGA Tour’s relatively new cut rule guidelines.
That means the top 65 players in the field, plus any ties, will make it through when the cut is made following the second round.
This has been the case since the 2019 season – up to which point PGA Tour events saw the top 70 and ties into the weekend.
Players Championship cut line
Where has the cut line fallen in the last 10 Players Championships? Here’s a quick breakdown…
(Remember – the 2020 Players was cancelled after one round due to the Covid Pandemic.)
YEAR | CUT LINE | WINNING SCORE |
2024 | -1 | -20 |
2023 | -1 | -17 |
2022 | +2 | -13 |
2021 | E | -14 |
2019 | -1 | -16 |
2018 | -1 | -18 |
2017 | +2 | -10 |
2016 | -2 | -15 |
2015 | E | -12 |
2014 | E | -13 |
So the message is pretty clear, here. Shoot under par for your opening two rounds and you’re all but guaranteed a spot in the weekend.
And, with more than $50,000 up for grabs for the player finishing dead last on Sunday, it’s certainly pays to make the cut.
