That major criticism we all had of TGL? It looks like they’re going to fix it

The simulator golf league is looking to expand – and one franchise owner is particularly keen for change…
The TGL is likely to have several new teams from next season.
The indoor golf league, co-founded by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as part of the Grand Slam-winning pair’s TMRW Sports venture, is coming off the back of a successful first season which saw the Atlanta Drive quartet of Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover triumph in the SoFi Cup.
As a result, talks have immediately begun about expansion for the 2026 campaign.
Speaking on a panel at the CAA World Congress of Sports, TMRW Sports CEO Mike McCarley said he has been “pleasantly surprised” by the amount of interest in creating a new franchise and that they would likely “start with one and then it will grow from there”.
The league is currently made up of six four-man teams – including 12 of the world’s top 20 male players – but this is where it gets more interesting.
One major criticism of TGL’s inauguration was that it was a clear opportunity to include LPGA stars.
We weren’t alone. Also on the panel was Seven Seven Six found Alexis Ohanian, who owns the LA Golf franchise which is currently represented by Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala.
But, he revealed, part of his original pitch to become a team owner in TGL was that the league would, at some point, expand to include women.
“I’ve been bugging these guys about the LPGA deal,” Ohanian, who also founded NWSL team Angel City FC and women’s track and field series Athlos, said.
“They have been very interested. It’s just these things take time, and I’m not allowed to make any news.”
McCarley chimed in: “There is no secret we’re working on that.
“Alexis has been a great thought leader for us on that, and I think most of our team owners are right behind them in that area, too.”
