The Ladies European Tour have wasted no time in naming the next Solheim Cup captain as they look to regain the trophy they surrendered last year.
Anna Nordqvist has been appointed Team Europe’s next Solheim Cup captain.
The Swede takes over from Suzann Pettersen, who commandeered the Europeans to a 14-14 tie in Spain in 2023 before succumbing to a 15½-12½ defeat 12 months later.
Nordqvist, who was as a playing vice-captain in both of those tournaments under Pettersen’s stewardship, has played in every Solheim Cup since making her debut in 2009, earning 18.5 points from a possible 35 in that time. She is also one of the most successful golfers of her generation, winning three of the five women’s majors, as well as nine other titles on the LPGA and LET.
“I am so honoured to be appointed as the 2026 European Solheim Cup captain,” Nordqvist said in a statement. “Whether we were winning or losing, the Solheim Cup has played such a huge part in my career ever since I made my debut in 2009 in Chicago.
“The friendships I have made, and the memories created during the nine matches I’ve played make it so incredibly special to be given the opportunity to be European Captain at my tenth Solheim Cup.”
The 20th Solheim Cup will take place at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from September 11-13, 2026.
“I feel especially fortunate to be the captain at Bernardus Golf,” Nordqvist said of the Kyle Phillips-designed heathland.
“It’s a superb course for match play with fantastic facilities and a stunning clubhouse so we couldn’t ask for a better stage for the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup.
“It’s also super close to Amsterdam so I think the fans are going to have an amazing experience enjoying its rich culture and the famous warm Dutch hospitality.”
The LET’s CEO, Alexandra Armas, said Nordqvist “has been such an important member of the European team over the years – both on and off the course”.
Armas added: “She has been a wonderful ambassador for European golf throughout her career, both as an individual and as part of the team, and I can tell you that the news of this appointment will no doubt be extremely popular among the players.”
