Who is playing for Team USA in the 2023 Solheim Cup?

The 12 players USA captain Stacey Lewis will be hoping can secure Solheim Cup victory in Spain.

The 18th Solheim Cup takes place at Finca Cortesin from 22 September – 24 September 2023, the first time the event has even been held in Spain.

USA captain Stacey Lewis will be hoping her group of 12 can take charge in the Spanish sun. The Americans look strong but will have to overcome a magnificent European lineup as they look to win their first Solheim Cup on foreign soil since 2015.

Let’s look at the players representing Team USA in the 2023 Solheim Cup and what their records look like…

Allisen Corpuz.

Allisen Corpuz – Solheim Cup record and stats

Age: 25
World ranking: 8
Professional wins: 1
Major wins: 1 (2023 U.S. Women’s Open)
Solheim Cups played: None

The Hawaiian is a Solheim Cup rookie who had a distinguished amateur career and represented the U.S. in the Palmer Cup and Walker Cup. Managing to fulfill those high expectations, Corpuz, two years into her professional career, captured the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach as part of five top-10s this season, which also includes the Chevron Championship and AIG Women’s Open. For the current 2023 season she has taken home just shy of $3 million. Now, she’ll get her shot at representing the U.S. Team in Spain for her maiden Solheim Cup.

Professional wins: 3
Major wins: 0

One of Stacey Lewis’ three captain’s picks, Ally Ewing has four top-10s this year, including the AIG Women’s Open, in which she was the 36-hole leader. She is 15th on tour for greens in regulation and has a good all-round game. That will be paramount in getting the job done at Finca Cortesin. Having played in two Solheim Cups prior she will be looking to do better this time around and secure some more points for her country having only won two of eight matches.

Major wins: 1 (2017 Women’s PGA Championship)
Solheim Cups played: 3
Matches won: 5

Matches lost: 7

Kang had a strong Solheim debut, winning three points. But in 2019, she said, “You’re trying to take souls. Just crush the other team. That’s the fun of it,” and has subsequently had a losing record in the event. It’s been over a year since Kang won on tour though, this year, she has three top-10s in 14 starts. The Las Vegas local has had a great individual career with a major along the way and will be looking to add Solheim Cup number 2 to her cabinet. She qualified for the USA team through points gained over the season.

Following 190 LPGA starts and 33 top-10s, Khang broke through for her maiden victory at the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open. Khang is no stranger to the Solheim Cup having played in 2019, and 2021, although, she would have liked to be on the winning side at least once. Her record in the Solheim Cup is not great with only one win from six and captain Stacey Lewis will certainly be hoping she can improve.

World No.1 Nelly Korda is the favourite heading to Carnoustie.

World ranking: 2
Professional wins: 8
Major wins: 1 (2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship)
Solheim Cups played: 2
Matches won: 5
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 2

She’s arguably the face of the American team, and at only 25 has already had great success and experience at The Solheim Cup. Korda is yet to be on the winning team at the Solheim but has put some great points on the board with five wins out of eight matches. The American has only won once on the LPGA since the start of 2022. There’s still been success, though, with seven top-10s in 13 LPGA starts this year, plus a win on the LET. Korda may have wished to have had a better season but she is the world’s second-ranked player for a reason, and she’ll be one of the leaders of the U.S. Team as they try to take back the cup from European hands.

Cheyenne Knight

Age: 26
World ranking: 44
Professional wins: 2
Major wins: 0

Cheyenne Knight was knocking on the door of ending her four-year winless drought with seven top-20s in eight starts throughout the middle of the season. She finally broke the curse by winning the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, with partner Elizabeth Szokol. Now the Texan will be making her Solheim debut and should fit the team well as she’s 12th on tour in driving accuracy. Although 44th in the world she missed out on an automatic place and is one of Stacey Lewis’s trusted Captain picks ahead of the trip to Spain.

From Westminster, Colorado Jennifer Kupcho had her breakthrough after the Solheim Cup in 2021. Her success on tour has come three times including a major at the 2022 Chevron Championship. However, this year hasn’t brought the same success, aside from a runner-up at the Mizuho Americas Open behind Rose Zhang. She is fourth on tour in greens in regulation and first in eagles, which can play a huge part around Finca Cortesin and how it’s set up.

After earning her card and winning her first LPGA event in Portland last year, she struggled at the beginning of the 2023 season but has come alive as of late with two top-10s in her last three starts.

It’s been a tough season for Thompson. She has had seven missed cuts in nine LPGA starts, she’s 157th in the season-long Race to the CME Globe. Even though this is the case Lexi still managed to secure a sixth-straight Solheim Cup opportunity thanks to her No. 21 world ranking, as the top seven in points made the U.S. team, followed by the leading two players in the world ranking.

It wasn’t long ago that this Solheim Cup rookie really struggled to find her footing on tour. After riding the wave and sticking with it, she became the first American to win multiple majors in the same year since 1999, with victory at the 2023 Chevron Championship, AIG Women’s Open. Vu secured her maiden LPGA title in Thailand before her major success where she rose to No. 1 in the world and took home over $2.5 million.

The Californian burst onto the scene with lofty expectations as a long-hitter but is sadly still searching for the first victory of her individual career. After Angel’s second Solheim call-up, she began to struggle with injuries and caused her life on tour to be in jeopardy. In 2023, though, Yin regained her form from her early career and nearly won the Chevron in a playoff, whilst also recording another four top-10 finishes which included one at the AIG Women’s Open. Getting to the tail end of the year after her bounce-back campaign, Yin is given her third Solheim Cup opportunity as a captain’s pick.

She will be hoping a year that includes an LPGA win at Mizuho Americas Open, victory at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, three top-10 finishes and over $1 million in winnings will also have a Solheim Cup victory to add.
