Who is Shane Lowry’s caddie?

He is one of the most popular characters in the game, a major champion, Ryder Cup hero, and a proud Irishman – but who is Shane Lowry’s caddie?
After a successful run with Brian “Bo” Martin that included an unforgettable Open win at Royal Portrush in 2019, Lowry made a significant change in early 2023 by bringing Darren Reynolds on to his bag.
Reynolds is no stranger to the professional circuit. A respected and experienced caddie, he’s previously worked with players such as Paul Dunne, Paul McGinley, and Roger Chapman, and has been around the European and PGA Tour scene for years. Quietly professional and calm under pressure, he’s known for bringing a steady hand to big moments – something that suits Lowry’s laid-back but fiery personality perfectly.
The pair linked up at the start of 2023 after Lowry and Martin amicably parted ways following a dip in form. Despite winning golf’s oldest major together, and forming a close bond that made them one of the game’s more endearing player-caddie duos, Lowry felt it was time for a fresh perspective.
“I’m not a caddie-firer or anything,” Lowry explained at the time. “Bo and I had a great run. We’re still friends. It was just time for something different.”
The change seems to have reinvigorated Lowry’s game. While wins have been elusive, he’s continued to contend at big events and played a crucial role for Team Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, forming part of a dominant European side under captain Luke Donald.
As for Reynolds, he’s slotted in seamlessly. With his calm demeanor and years of experience, he’s helped Lowry navigate some of golf’s toughest tests, with top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship and The Open in 2024.
Bursting onto the scene with a win at the 2009 Irish Open as an amateur, Lowry has since become one of the most recognizable figures in the sport. His Open victory at Royal Portrush was not only career-defining but emotionally resonant, with the whole of Ireland – and much of the golf world – swept up in the Guinness-fuelled celebrations.
In a sport where the player-caddie relationship can be as delicate as it is crucial, Lowry’s decision to bring Reynolds on board looks to be a savvy move. Together, they’ve formed a strong partnership built on trust, experience, and a shared understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Meanwhile, Bo Martin hasn’t been idle since the split. He’s now looping for rising Aussie star Min Woo Lee, helping guide the charismatic youngster to several top-20 finishes and a growing global profile.
As for Lowry and Reynolds, there’s a sense that the story is just getting started. The Irishman still has plenty of good golf ahead of him — and with Reynolds by his side, he’ll be looking to add more chapters to an already brilliant career.
