Rory McIlroy just joined Tiger Woods in a rather exclusive PGA Tour club
Last updated:

There aren’t many people who can say they’re in a party of two with the Greatest of All Time. Now Rory McIlroy can.
For Rory McIlroy, a tie for 5th at the Texas Children’s Houston Open was nothing but solid preparation as he embarks on a 17th attempt to win that elusive Green Jacket.
He won’t be thinking about the $380,000 check that came with that top-five finish at Memorial Park – when you’re as wealthy as McIlroy, you don’t notice another couple hundred thou on the pile – but it has taken the four-time major champ to a significant milestone.
McIlroy has become just the second player to win more than $100 million on the PGA Tour. (The first was Tiger Woods, but you knew that already from the headline.)
He’s come a long way since his first PGA Tour payday – a $270,000 check for a quarterfinal finish at the WGC Match Play way back in 2009 – and with prize money and sponsorship deals is believed to be worth close to a quarter of a billion.
And with Woods not likely to add to his $120,999,166 total any time soon – if ever – after blowing out his Achilles, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that McIlroy will overtake his old friend in the coming years. Judging by the top 20, it looks like it’s only Scottie Scheffler he has to worry about beating him there…

After winning the Players Championship earlier this month, McIlroy soon added Houston to his schedule in a bid to fine-tune his game as he looks to not only become a Masters champion at last but the game’s sixth Grand Slam winner.
And while he couldn’t keep the pace with eventual champion Min Woo Lee, McIlroy was happy with his week.
“It was a good week, though I feel like I’ve still got some stuff to work on,” he told Golf Channel after signing for a final-round 64.
But then some more concerning news. When asked what he’ll be doing between now and heading to Augusta, McIlroy admitted: “My right elbow’s been bothering me a little bit, so I’ll get some treatment on that and make sure that that’s OK going into Augusta.”
Or maybe just leave it, Rors. Because it seems to be working…
