Who is Rory McIlroy’s coach?

He’s the man tasked with fine-tuning one of the best swings in golf. But who is Rory McIlroy’s coach?
He has one of the most majestic motions in all of golf, and he has used it to devastating effect. But who is Rory McIlroy’s coach?
And the man who has overseen McIlroy’s swing for the majority of his career is Michael Bannon.
McIlroy was something of a child prodigy and started working with Bannon when he was just eight years old.
Bannon is the former head pro at Bangor and Holywood, the latter of which is McIlroy’s home club.
He doesn’t travel full-time with McIlroy but does join the four-time major champion at various tour stops throughout the year.
McIlroy did briefly work with Pete Cowen after struggling with his game but left the legendary coach after coming to an emotional realisation at the 2021 Ryder Cup.
Together, McIlroy and Bannon have won four majors: the 2011 US Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championships, and the 2014 Open.
McIlroy also has three Race to Dubai crowns and a hat-trick of FedEx Cup titles to his name and is a two-time Players champion.
He boasts an incredible career and has displayed remarkable consistency since flying onto the scene as an amateur at the 2007 Open at Carnoustie.
While he now has a few more grey hairs and a bulkier physique, to the naked eye, his swing still looks similar to when he was a young prodigy and that is a credit to the work of Bannon.
Who else does McIlroy work with?
As well as Bannon, McIlroy has worked with various other coaches during his career.
Putting guru Phil Kenyon helped McIlroy on the greens for a spell but Brad Faxon is now the go-to man when the flatstick is misbehaving.
On the mental side of the game, McIlroy works with Dr Bob Rotella.
