Tiger Woods returns to action alongside son Charlie at the PNC Championship
Published:
After recovering from a sixth back surgery, Tiger Woods will make his first competitive start since The Open at the PNC Championship in Florida.
Tiger Woods in competitive action has remained a rarity in 2024 with the 15-time major winner set to make only his sixth appearance of the season at the family-focussed PNC Championship.
Of his five 2024 outings, Woods has completed a 72-hole week just once, back at the Masters in April, missing the cut at the remaining majors, and withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational after 24 holes in February.
However, Woods will only have to hobble through 36 holes in Orlando, teaming up with his son Charlie as he has done every year since 2000, in the unique family-based event that invites players who have won majors or The Players Championship.
Last year saw Bernhard Langer and his son Jason take the spoils by two strokes ahead of David and Brady Duval on 25-under. Tiger and Charlie registered their best finish in 2021, finishing runners-up to John Daly and his son John Daly II.
Making his highly anticipated debut in 2024 will be Fred Couples, playing alongside his 16-year-old stepson Hunter Hannemann. The field is once again littered with past and present stars including Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, and current women’s World No.1 Nelly Korda who tees it up alongside her father Petr.
What is the format of the PNC Championship?
The PNC Championship features 20 teams playing a Texas Scramble format across 36 holes. Both players tee off before deciding on which ball to play. This format continues for every shot until the ball is in the hole.
Where is the PNC Championship played?
The PNC Championship is hosted at the Greg Norman-designed Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Orlando Grande Lakes in Florida. The Ritz-Carlton has been home to the tournament since 2012.
