PGA Tour pro misses cut in most brutal way possible

Adam Svennson missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open

Watch as the Farmers Insurance Open throws up one of those instances that just need to be seen to be believed

Adam Svensson will want to forget this year’s Farmers Insurance Open as quickly as possible.

The one-time PGA Tour winner, whose sole title came at the RSM Classic in 2022, was battling to make the cut at Torrey Pines as strong winds battered the California coastline.

The conditions meant a delay of around two hours during Thursday’s second round – the Farmers Insurance Open is played from Wednesday to Saturday to avoid clashing with the NFL – and the knock-on effect of that meant play was halted with many still out on the course.

One of those was Svensson.

The Canadian was 2-over-par and one shot outside the cut line when he reached the 18th and a sound approach left him with around six feet for birdie.

Then, as he was preparing to make the putt that would have seen him into the third round, this happened…

(Sound up, as the kids say.)

Yes, the horn to halt the day’s play went off DURING his backswing. As you can see, Svensson missed the putt by some distance and, as a result, was packing his bags shortly after.

With Torrey Pines expected to be named the temporary host of the Genesis Invitational in a couple of weeks, there have been a number of high profile withdrawals prior to the tournament.

And that continued on Thursday.

With those nowhere near the cut line not wanting to come back to finish their second round, no fewer than 10 players – including Max Homa and Emiliano Grillo – decided to head home.

Those that did stay include Ludvig Aberg, who will go into the weekend sharing the lead with Lanto Griffin at 6-under-par.

“I don’t remember the last time it was that hard to get close to the pins,” the Swede said of a day when only three players broke 70. “The greens were hard and they were tricky, but I’m proud of the
way I fought and looking forward to the next couple days.”
