Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club

It will be the first time since 1998 the Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational will not be played at the Los Angeles club

Riviera Country Club will not host this year’s Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour has confirmed.

Fatal wildfires continue to affect the Los Angeles, with Pacific Palisades, the suburb just a few miles from Riviera, worst hit.

It will be just the third time since 1973 that Riviera hasn’t hosted the event formerly known as the LA Open. It was held at Rancho Park in 1983 and Valencia Country Club in 1998.

“The PGA Tour’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” the statement read.

“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.

“In collaboration with Genesis, the Riviera Country Club and TGR Live, and out of respect for the unfolding situation, we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16.  A venue update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.

“The PGA Tour is identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts. We encourage fans to join the support at PGATOUR.COM/SupportLA.”

Where will the 2025 Genesis Invitational be played?

While PGA West, which hosted last week’s American Express tournament, and TPC Scottsdale, which will hold the WM Phoenix Open in a few days’ time were considered, it is Torrey Pines that has been given the nod to host the 2025 Genesis Invitational.

“We are grateful to the city of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament,” tournament host Tiger Woods said.

“While Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship-calibre golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan added: PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan added: “As we’ve seen the last two weeks, sports can be a great diversion but an even greater unifier in bringing people together for a common cause.

“Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards with the playing of The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines.”

With rumors swirling that Torrey Pines would be hosting the Signature Event in February, this week’s Farmers Insurance Open saw a number of withdrawals as a result.
