Pat Perez will join LIV Golf's broadcast team

Pat Perez’s long-rumored exit from DJ’s team has been confirmed – but the outspoken American will remain at LIV Golf

It’s official. Pat Perez’s time at LIV Golf has come to an end.

As a player, that is.

The 48-year-old was a member of Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces team for the past three seasons, but with a combination of Perez’s contract expiring and Thomas Pieters joining Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III on Johnson’s roster, it was time for something a little bit different.

Perez, who described joining the Saudi-funded league as “hitting the lottery” in 2022, will instead walk alongside his fellow competitors as an on-course analyst.

“I’m full-steam on this thing,” Perez said in a statement issued by LIV Golf on Monday. “I’m really excited to do it. It’s a perfect mid-life restart for me.”

He added: “I’ve thought about doing TV for a while now. I feel like I’m at Q-School again, starting a new career.

“It’s certainly going to be a learning process. I’m excited to bring my personality to it. We’re going to have fun.”

Perez has come under fire in his time at LIV Golf, particularly for his expletive-laden responses to any criticism thrown at the league.

Indeed, when Tiger Woods questioned the competitiveness of LIV and the incentive to do well, Perez described it as “the stupidest sh*t I have ever heard of in my life”.

“That’s one of the stupidest things I think he has said,” he argued while on Claude Harmon’s Son of a Butch podcast, adding that “the incentive is the fact that last place is $120,000, first place is $4 million”.

Which makes this all feel like a natural step for Perez, a three-time PGA Tour winner before he jumped ship for LIV.

He formerly co-hosted the Sirius XM talk show ‘Out of Bounds’ with ESPN’s Michael Collins, and he was part of the Turner Sports commentary team for the original edition of ‘The Match’ between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, after which he said he “couldn’t have had more fun”.

From the 2025 season onwards, LIV Golf will be broadcast on Fox Sports, and LIV Golf’s senior vice president of worldwide production, James Watson, said the hire was a “no brainer”.

“Pat is one of the great characters of the game,” he added. “His experience as both a LIV player and championship-level competitor will really add to the diverse range of voices we already have in the mix.”
