It’s considered the Holy Grail – but which players have broken 60 on the main tours? Here are the lowest rounds of golf in the sport’s history…
For all the chat of which is harder out of a 147 in snooker, a nine-darter in darts and a hole-in-one, we seem to overlook the fact that the golf equivalent to those remarkable feats is a round of 59 or better. So let’s take a look at the rundown of the lowest rounds of golf ever recorded.
Lowest rounds of golf ever recorded
There have been 15 sub-60 rounds on the PGA Tour, the latest of which came courtesy of Jake Knapp – at PGA National of all places.
The home of what is now called the Cognizant Classic – featuring the famous Bear Pit run of holes that has ended so many hopes down the years – was playing incredibly soft for the opening round in 2025. But take nothing away from Knapp for what was a remarkable round of golf.

Remarkably, only one player has broken 60 on the DP World Tour – formerly the European Tour.
Incidentally, Jorge Campillo and Colin Nel both carded rounds of 59 during the 2013 Nelson Mandela Championship, but as preferred lies were in play, they are not recognized as official in terms of the record books.
