Aramco Team Series London 2024: Nelly Korda withdraws after Seattle dog bite

World No.1 Nelly Korda misses chance to defend her title at the Aramco Team Series event in London after being bitten by a dog in Seattle.

Nelly Korda’s nightmare run of three consecutive missed cuts will not come to an end this week at the European Tour co-sanctioned Aramco Team Series London. The American’s hopes of recapturing the form that has seen her land six titles in 2024 are on ‘paws’ for the time being.

“On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully,” Korda wrote on social media.

“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”

Nelly Korda has withdrawn from the Aramco Team Series in London after being bitten by a dog.

The English capital hosts the third event on the series, now in its fourth season, which has seen Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling and Kim Hyo-joo win the Tampa and Seoul editions with Charley Hull finishing second in both.

The European Solheim Cup star now has four runner-up medals since the Saudi-bankrolled series launched, with her single victory coming in 2021 at the New York event.

London has been a relatively fruitful hunting ground for home players, however, with Bronte Law winning in 2022, from last year’s winning captain Georgia Hall, whose side pipped Charley Hull’s by a stroke with Hull only being denied by Korda in the individual competition.

What format is the Aramco Team Series London?

The unique format of the Aramco Team Series sees the world’s best players link up with amateur golfers in 36 teams of four – three professionals, one amateur. Two scores from each team will count on each hole across the first two days of the competition.

The individual competition remains a standard 54-hole strokeplay tournament with the lowest aggregate score winning across three days. The field is cut after the conclusion of the team event with only the top 60 players, plus ties, progressing to battle it out for victory on the final day.

Where is the Aramco Team Series London played?

The Centurion Club in the English Hertfordshire countryside hosts the Aramco Team Series London edition, which was the first-ever Aramco Team Series venue back in 2021. The Centurion also hosted LIV Golf’s inaugural event in 2022.

Considered one of the best golf courses in England, the par 73 Centurion track begins among towering pines before darting over undulating open land, then returning to a woodland feel for the final five-hole stretch. The course features 80 bunkers and four major water hazards.

The 18th is the signature hole at Centurion Club, overlooking the clubhouse.

Who is in the field for the Aramco Team Series London?

Despite the absence of World No.1 and defending champion Nelly Korda, a host of the game’s biggest stars including Alison Lee, a two-time Aramco Team Series individual winner line up in the 108-player professional field.

A strong English contingent will be cheered on by the home crowd who will hope to see World No.8 Charley Hull go one better than her second-place finish last time around. Georgia Hall, winning captain from 12 months ago also tees it up again, as does current LET Order of Merit leader – Bronte Law, a winner herself at this event in 2022.
