We talk a lot about the players, but most of their success wouldn’t have come without the right man on the bag.

A caddie plays a pivotal role in the success of a player, and no one knows that more than Justin Rose, who has had Mark “Fooch” Fulcher on the bag for most of his career.

The pair first teamed up in 2008 and went on to become one of the most successful player-caddie duos in recent memory. Together they won a US Open, an Olympic gold medal, and rose to World No.1 back in 2018.

Now, after a brief separation, they’re back chasing major glory.

Who is Mark “Fooch” Fulcher?

Fulcher is one of the most respected caddies in the game. He got his start on the Ladies European Tour, where he worked with legends like Laura Davies and Alison Nicholas. In fact, Fooch was on the bag for Nicholas when she won the US Women’s Open in 1997.

It didn’t take long for his talents to be noticed on the men’s tour. Fooch linked up with Rose in 2008, and their chemistry was immediate. Over the next decade, they built a partnership founded on trust, experience, and mutual respect.

And it is fair to say their highlight reel is pretty stacked.

But in 2019, everything changed. Fulcher underwent heart surgery to repair a mitral valve. The recovery forced him to step away from the game, and Rose had to move on with a new caddie.

Still, Fooch never disappeared. After recovery, he worked briefly with players like Francesco Molinari and Billy Horschel, but the bond with Rose was never truly broken. When the chance came to reunite, both men jumped at it, the duo reunited ahead of the BMW PGA Championship in time for the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone.
