Rock on, Tommy! Fleetwood finally gets himself off golf’s most unwanted list
Last updated:
Imagine banking millions of dollars and having no trophy to show for it. Well, Tommy Fleetwood can imagine no more. So here are the remaining players with the most money earned on the PGA Tour without a win…
How many players have banked more than $15 million on the PGA Tour with no trophy to show for it? This is the definitive list of players with the most money earned on the PGA Tour without a win.
And, at long last, we’ve lost Tommy Fleetwood.
The popular Englishman had earned $33,430,669 from 163 starts – an average of more than $200,000 a tournament – before a three-shot win at the 2025 Tour Championship finally ended his wait for a PGA Tour title.
There had been so many near-misses for Fleetwood.
He closed with 63 at the 2019 US Open at Shinnecock Hills to take the clubhouse lead, only to be pipped by one by Brooks Koepka. In regular PGA Tour events, Fleetwood conceded a one-shot lead coming down the stretch at the 2020 Honda Classic, which led to Paul Azinger declaring that “you can win all you want on the European Tour, the international game and all that, but you have to win on the PGA Tour” to “prove to everybody you’ve got what it takes”. Fleetwood also lost a playoff at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open to Nick Taylor, which saw him overtake the Canadian as the highest earner without a title on his resume. He also had a one-shot lead in the middle of the 72nd fairway at the 2025 Travelers Championship before three-putting to hand Keegan Bradley the title. Later in the season, at the FedEx St Jude Championship, Fleetwood surrendered a one-shot lead through 54 holes to allow Justin Rose to win a 12th PGA Tour title.

Fleetwood is the second member of this group to get his first PGA Tour victory. After seven runner-up finishes – including The Open at St Andrews and a defeat in the final of the WGC-Match Play – Cameron Young is finally a PGA Tour champion.
The American completed a six-shot victory over Mac Meissner at the Wyndham Championship to not only pick up the handsome winner’s check but also become the 1,000th player to win on the PGA Tour. (Though that list is questionable given it starts with Willie Park at the 1860 Open…)

But it also gets Young off golf’s most unwanted list.
Before we dive into the numbers, here they are in alphabetical order and just how close they’ve come…
Byeong Hun An
Runner-up finishes: 5
Top-5 finishes: 15
Top-10 finishes: 29
The South Korean has won five times around the world, including once on the Korn Ferry Tour and the DP World Tour’s flagship event – the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth – but has found life a bit tougher at the top. Three of An’s five runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour were playoff defeats: to Brian Stuard at the 2016 Zurich Classic, to Bryson DeChambeau at the 2018 Memorial, and to Grayson Murray at the 2024 Sony Open.
Denny McCarthy
Runner-up finishes: 2
Top-5 finishes: 9
Top-10 finishes: 29
The American won the Web.com Tour Championship – now Korn Ferry – in 2018, but has yet to get over the line on the main circuit. McCarthy’s two runner-up finishes were both playoff defeats after he was edged out by Viktor Hovland at the 2023 Memorial and Akshay Bhatia at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.
Alex Noren
Runner-up finishes: 3
Top-5 finishes: 14
Top-10 finishes: 27
A 10-time winner on the DP World Tour – including a Final Series event (2016 Nedbank Golf Challenge) and two Rolex Series events (2017 BMW PGA Championship and 2018 Open de France), Noren’s closest call on the PGA Tour came when he conceded the 54 hole lead at the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open before being beaten by Jason Day in extra holes.
Patrick Rodgers
Runner-up finishes: 4
Top-5 finishes: 14
Top-10 finishes: 28
Rodgers held the 54-hole lead as recently as the 2025 Genesis Invitational but eventually finished in a tie for 3rd. The American lost a playoff to Charles Howell III at the 2018 RSM Classic, before missing a 10-footer for the win at the 2023 Barracuda Championship before losing in extra holes to Akshay Bhatia – who apparently is the GOAT of denying players their first win.
Cameron Tringale
Runner-up finishes: 4
Top-5 finishes: 17
Top-10 finishes: 31
Four 2nd-place finishes for Tringale – none of which will hurt more than the 2016 Shriners Open, when Smylie Kaufman carded a final-round 61 to pip his fellow American by one.
Most money earned on the PGA Tour without a win
And then there were five!
Tommy Fleetwood’s victory means Denny McCarthy now leads this particular leaderboard. The American is also in six figures in the average column. Good work if you can get it.
Here are the quintet of players who have made north of $15 million without a victory on the PGA Tour…
PLAYER | EVENTS | EARNINGS | AVERAGE |
Denny McCarthy | 210 | $21,171,359 | $100,816 |
Byeong Hun An | 225 | $21,133,612 | $93,927 |
Patrick Rodgers | 306 | $18,027,632 | $58,914 |
Alex Noren | 192 | $17,457,441 | $90,924 |
Cameron Tringale | 338 | $17,310,004 | $51,213 |
There are as many as 15 winless players who have earned between $10 and $15 million, including several who no longer tee up on the PGA Tour: Brian Davis ($13,382,405), Briny Baird ($13,251,178), Brendon de Jonge ($11,568,484), Graham DeLaet ($11,265,285), Harold Varner III ($10,618,502) and Charlie Wi ($10,079,659).
Beau Hossler, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Eric Cole are among the 15 who are still regulars on the PGA Tour.
