Where are golf’s majors in 2025? Plus how to get tickets and play the courses beforehand

Here’s where 2025’s golf majors be played – plus information on how to get tickets and whether you can play the host courses.

Xander Schauffele’s victory at Royal Troon marked the end of the men’s golf majors for 2024. We still have the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews to look forward to from 21-25 August, but then we’ll be done for 2024 and starved of major action for eight months.

With that in mind, we’re already looking ahead to 2025, which will see men’s major action resume with the Masters and women’s major golf kick off again with the Chevron Championship, both in April.

Men’s golf majors 2025

Augusta National hosts The Masters every year.

The Masters

Where: Augusta National, Georgia, USA

When: April 10-13

The Masters is the only men’s major that takes place at the same venue and – barring a November 2020 edition due to Covid – always in mid-April.

The 2025 Masters will be played 10-13 April and see Scottie Scheffler seek to defend his crown and pick up a third Green Jacket in four seasons.

How to get tickets: The Masters holds a ticket ballot each year. Sadly, you’ve already missed the boat for 2025. The ballot for the 2026 Masters will likely run for a few weeks from 1 June 2025.

Can I play the course? Getting a tee time at Augusta is nigh-on impossible, but there is a chance… We’ve broken down all the ways you could get to play Augusta National here.

Quail Hollow will host the 2025 PGA Championship

PGA Championship

Where: Quail Hollow Club, North Carolina, USA

When: May 15-18

The PGA Championship is often seen as the least prestigious major and has seen its place in the calendar moved around a lot over the years.

Quail Hollow will host the 2025 PGA Championship, its first return since the 2017 edition won by Justin Thomas.

Quail Hollow is the regular host of the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship, an event Rory McIlroy has won four times (in 2010, 2015, 2021, and 2024), which is a good omen if the Northern Irishman is ever going to break his major drought.

How to get tickets: You can buy tickets direct from the PGA Championship website now.

Can I play the course? Quail Hollow is a private members’ club so you’d need to be invited as a guest.

Oakmont will host the U.S. Open for the 10th time in 2025

US Open

Where: Oakmont Country Club, Pennsylvania, USA

When: June 12-15

The US Open will be played at Oakmont for the 10th time, with further visits locked in for 2033, 2042, and 2049.

Oakmont has hosted more US Opens than any other course and last played host in 2016, when Dustin Johnson held off Jim Furyk, Shane Lowry, and Scott Piercy to win by three shots.

How to get tickets: Tickets are available now from the US Open website.

Can I play the course? Oakmont is regarded as one of the hardest golf courses in the world, and it’s also one of the hardest to get onto. You’ll need to be invited by a member or play in a charity day.

Royal Portrush will host the 2025 Open Championship

The Open

Where: Royal Portrush Golf Club, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

When: July 17-20

Portrush hosted the 2019 Open after a 68-year wait since its first hosting, but won’t have to wait long after receiving universal plaudits during tournament week.

Shane Lowry lifted the Claret Jug in 2019 and would love to do so again in 2025, having led the Open at times during 2024.

How to get tickets: The ballot for Open tickets closes on 31 July 2024.

Can I play the course? If you want to play a men’s major venue in 2025, Royal Portrush is your best hope.

Their website states:

“We are delighted to welcome visitors from all over the world to visit Royal Portrush and participate in a world-class golfing experience in a warm and welcoming environment against the stunning backdrop of the Causeway Coast & Glens area of outstanding natural beauty. To ensure availability, pre-booking of all tee times is essential.

“All green fees are payable in full on booking and are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. Visitors are expected to be members of recognised golf clubs and handicap certificates may be requested prior to play.”

Green fees for 2024: £340pp (1 May to 30 September)

That’s the fee for Dunluce Links, the Open course. It’s also possible to play the neighbouring Valley Links for £140pp (1 May to 30 September).

I’ve been lucky enough to play the Dunluce and it’s in my top five courses I’ve played.
