KLM Open 2024: Field, betting odds, and tee times as the tour returns to Europe

The DP World Tour returns this week with the KLM Open which will be hosted by The International on the outskirts of Amsterdam.

As we reach the mid-way point of the DP World Tour European Swing with the KLM Open just days after the conclusion of the third major of the year – the US Open – won by LIV star, Bryson DeChambeau.

This year marks the 104th edition of the ‘Dutch International Open Championship’ which will be played at The International Golf Course. First known as the Dutch Open, this tournament has been around since 1912 and first joined the European tour schedule in 1972. As many as 13 golf courses have hosted the competition and this is the first time back at the International since 2019.

The KLM Open is the midway point of the European Swing, with the overall winner taking home a bonus of $200,000 and qualification for each of the ‘back 9’ events. After a brief stop here, the DPWT will move to the Adriatic Golf Club in Italy for the Italian Open. Before the final event, which will see a Swing Champion crowned, the Tour returns to Germany for the BMW International Open, ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Troon 17th-21st July.

Joost Luiten will be hoping for a win on dutch soil at the KLM Open

Who is playing in the KLM Open?

Defending Champion Pablo Larrazabal will be back in the Netherlands this week as he hopes for a successful title defense. Rasmus Højgaard and Matteo Manassero will be in Amsterdam too as they both look for their first DPWT victory in 2024.

Matt Wallace and Luke List will join home favorites Joost Luiten and Darius van Driel, who have most recently bolstered the KLM Open field. The Englishman and the American are PGA Tour winners and will be hoping the trip to Europe is full success.

If you’re after some more big names and want another star-studded field, then tune into the Travelers Championship later in the day with all of the top 5 golfers in the world in action at TPC River Highlands.

What is the format of the KLM Open?

The KLM Open is a normal strokeplay event played over 72 holes with a cut after 36 holes (two rounds) that sees the leading 65 players and ties make the final two rounds. The player with the lowest score over four rounds will win the tournament.

Where is the KLM Open being played?

The 104th edition of the KLM Open will be hosted at the International Golf Club, which is located on the outskirts of Amsterdam, neighboring Schiphol airport. At 6914 yards, this certainly won’t be the longest course on the calendar but it doesn’t mean it won’t be challenging. The large and undulating greens along with all the hazards will surely make for a tough test.

Ian Woosnam is the headline architect of The International but it was the Belgian designer, Bruno Steensels of Mastergolf, who brought The International to life. The KLM Open returns to the venue for the first time in five years. The last winner at the venue in 2019 was Masters Champion and LIV star, Sergio Garcia

Rasmus Hojgaard at the KLM Open

Who will win the KLM Open?

Defending Champion Pablo Larrazabal will be back in the Netherlands this week hoping he can put his name back on the trophy and make it three Spanish champions in the last five years. Eight Spaniards have won this title including the legend Seve Ballesteros who won it three times.

Alex Fitzpatrick and Rasmus Højgaard are certainly some young guns to watch out for. Rasmus has proved he can win on the DPWT and Fitzpatrick is yet to win but has shown snippets of what he can do having had some great finishes.

Keep an eye out for the Dutch too. Joost Luiten and Darius van Driel will have the support of the home crowd and looking to build on that for some inspiration in Amsterdam.

How much will the winner of the KLM Open receive?

The 2024 event will see a total prize fund of $2.5m, which is a rise from the $2m that was on offer last year. The winner will take home a cool $425,000, which represents 17% of the total purse, a standard system in all DP World Tour events. Along with the prize money, players will also earn precious Race to Dubai ranking points.
