Collin Morikawa's caddie, JJ Jakovac, had a hole-in-one at TPC Sawgrass ahead of the 2025 Players.

What a moment this was for Collin Morikawa’s caddie, JJ Jakovac, at TPC Sawgrass!

It’s a TPC Sawgrass tradition now in its 25th year – and Collin Morikawa’s caddie has just had the first hole-in-one of the Caddie Contest.

It only took quarter of a century.

The Caddie Contest – which sees each player’s bagman hit a shot at 17 during Wednesday’s practice round – started in 2000, and so far none have been able to do it.

Step forward, JJ Jakovac.

Using a pitching wedge he’d only received the night before, Jakovac pitched his ball beyond the pin, which was at the front of the green, and a combination of spin and the slope brought it back and into the hole. It was only the third shot he’d hit with the new club, part of a new set received from TaylorMade, with the previous two having come on the range that morning when Morikawa forced him to warm up.

“It had to ride the wind to get there,” Jakovac, a two-time Division II national champion and national player of the year at Chico State University, told Golfweek. “Right as it came off, I was like, ‘That’s a perfect line if it lands the right distance.’ It started spinning, and I was like, ‘This has a heck of a chance!'”

Right, let’s take a look at the clip…

(Be warned – there is a lot of cursing in this clip!)

Now, just because we can, let’s see it from the opposite angle…

Not only does Jakovac go down as the first person to hole an ace in the Caddie Contest, he also receives a prize fund consisting of donations made by the pros in the field – though the amount is undisclosed – as well as a $10,000 award from sponsors, a VIP parking space for the remainder of the tournament, an engraved money clip, and their name on a plaque inside the Tunnel of Champions.
