Brooks Koepka responds to LIV Golf exit rumors in most Brooks Koepka way possible

Brooks Koepka has once again been the subject of rumors about a return to the PGA Tour.

Does Brooks Koepka want to return to the PGA Tour? We’re not convinced even he knows…

Of all those that left the PGA Tour for the Saudi-funded breakaway league, the “buyer’s remorse” cloud has hung over Brooks Koepka more than any other player.

Fred Couples was the latest to wade in on the subject. The 1992 Masters champion was a guest on a radio show recently when he said Koepka “really wants to come back and play the Tour”.

It was described by Phil Mickelson as “a jerk move by Couples” in a now-deleted social media post, but now Koepka himself has had his say.

“Fred texted me after the comments came out,” Koepka said ahead of defending his title at the LIV Golf event in Singapore. “Everybody seems to have their own opinion and no one asks me.”

He added: “I talk to Fred quite a bit, but we don’t go too much into detail about what’s going on.”

While it might come across as dismissive, the reality is Koepka knows about as much as we do about what the future holds.

The so-called framework agreement talks rumble on between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, with the latest update – for want of a better phrase – involving Jay Monahan revealing at TPC Sawgrass ahead of this week’s Players Championship that it looks like some elements of the league will be incorporated into the Tour.

Koepka, as he always has, is more interested in just doing his own thing.

“Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms,” he explained. “I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfil, and then we’ll see what happens.

“I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does. Right now I’m just focused on how do I play better, how do I play better in the majors, how does this team win, and then we’ll figure out next year and how to play better again. It’s the same thing. It’s just a revolving cycle.

“I’ve got nothing. Everybody else seems to know more than I do.”

It’s a stark contrast to how Bryson DeChambeau responded to online tongue-wagging about his own future.

Maybe – just maybe – Koepka is as bored as we are by this ongoing saga.
