Fire up the rumor mill! Brooks Koepka’s made another stark admission about LIV Golf and the PGA Tour
Last updated:

You certainly can’t accuse Brooks Koepka of not being honest when it comes to his feelings on golf’s top-level divide…
Not for the first time – and almost certainly not for the last time – Brooks Koepka has more than hinted at a yearning to return to the PGA Tour.
Of all those that defected to LIV Golf, the “buyer’s remorse” cloud has hung over Brooks Koepka more than any other player. And he’s not shy about talking about it, either.
“I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill,” he said at a recent LIV event, in response to Fred Couples, who told PGA Tour Radio that Koepka was keen to find a way back.
And in an appearance on The Joe Pomp Show last month, Koepka said he thinks LIV is “behind where it should be” after four years and $5 billion spent.
But while he backs new CEO Scott O’Neil to get the league moving in the right direction, he reiterated his point ahead of this week’s LIV Golf Miami event at Trump National in Florida.
“I think we all hoped it would have been a little bit further along, and that’s no secret,” he explained. “No matter where you’re at, you always hope everything is further along. But they’re making progress and it seems to be going in the right direction.”
And while any deal between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund – which finances LIV Golf – continue to rumble on in the background, Koepka has revealed that he still speaks to Jay Monahan, as well as which events he misses the most.
“I still have a good relationship with everybody there. There’s a lot of ‘what-ifs’, but I’d be open to playing certain events,” the five-time major champion told The Times.
“I love Phoenix [and] the Cognizant Classic, because it’s my hometown.”
Koepka also reiterated his desire to keep playing a certain DP World Tour event that’s close to his heart.
“I’d love to play Dunhill,” he added. “But if we can’t that’s OK.
“I’ve made my decision.”
Turning his attention to Augusta National, where he has finished runner-up on two occasions, including in 2023 where he blew a two-shot lead through 54 holes to lose out to now LIV colleague Jon Rahm, Koepka answered in the affirmative when asked if he craves a Green Jacket, before adding that he would “like an Open too”.
“When I grew up it was the Masters,” he said. “That’s what my family talked about, and everybody came round and watched.”
He continued: “I’d like to rack up a few more [major wins] in the next two years.
“It goes back to how I was brought up. You look at all the great athletes and it’s never enough. No matter what. Even when it’s good enough, it’s not enough.
“All this stuff I do is self-motivating. I just said it to you, so now I need to go back it up. People think it’s cocky. No, I just put it all on the line.”
