AIG Women’s Open 2024: Who is in the field?
Last updated:
Today’s Golfer takes a look at the players contending for the final major of the women’s golf calendar, the 2024 AIG Women’s Open Championship.
Taking place from 22nd to 25th of August 2024, the AIG Women’s Open will attract 156 of the world’s best to battle it out for a major title at the Home of Golf. Returning to St Andrews Old Course for the first time since 2013, Lilia Vu will be looking to defend her title at the LPGA and LET co-sanctioned event, after her victory at Walton Heath in 2023.
But how do players qualify for the final major of the year? Well, there’s actually 29 different qualification routes! The usual exemptions apply, such as all past winners of the tournament ages 60 or under, the top 10 (and ties) finishers from the 2023 championship, the top 50 players in the Rolex World Golf Rankings, and major winners from the past four years. But there are many other qualification categories, such as players who missed the previous year’s tournament due to maternity, the Gold medal winner from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and three leading players from the 2024 Women’s Scottish Open, that have not already qualified.
The last opportunity to qualify for the AIG Women’s Open is Final Qualifying, which in 2024 took place at Crail Golfing Society on Monday 19 August.

Twelve players from the Final Qualifying event at Crail Golfing Society qualified for the AIG Women’s Open. Weiwei Zhang of China led the qualifiers after carding a five-under-par 67.
The 27-year-old finished one shot ahead of Casandra Alexander, Annabell Fuller, Kristen Gillman and Emma Grechi, who all scored a four-under-par 68. Two shots further back in a tie for sixth place on two-under-par 70 were Lauren Hartlage, Noora Komulainen, Lee-Anne Pace and Patricia Schmidt.
A sudden death play-off was needed to determine the remaining three qualifying places. Jodi Ewart Shadoff, Stephanie Meadow and Ursula Wikstrom came out on top to book their place in the field at the home of golf.
