Viktor Hovland breaks Bob Estes’ record for most consecutive rounds in the 60s on the PGA Tour since 1983
Viktor Hovland is only entering his first full season on the PGA Tour, but the 22-year-old Norweigan golfer has already managed to break a long-standing record.
The former World No.1 Amateur, who turned professional in June, guaranteed his place in the history books after carding his 18th consecutive round in the 60s on the PGA Tour with a three-under 69 during the first round of The CJ Cup at Nine Bridges.
Bob Estes previously held the record – for the most consectuvie rounds in the 60s on the PGA Tour (since 1983) – with 17, but Hovland tied him in the first event of the season at The Greenbrier and has now overtaken the record Estes set in 2001.
Hovland’s streak began with a 64 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and he continued that run through the 3M Open, John Deere Classic, Wyndham Championship and A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
On Thursday, he began his first round with an opening hole birdie and added another at the par-five third before dropping shots at the fourth and sixth holes to make the turn in level par. A three-under-par back nine included birdies at the 12th, 15th and 17th holes for a 69 and his 18th consecutive round in the 60s. He currently sits tied in 15th place, five strokes behind first round leader Byeong Hun An.
