Betting Tips and who to watch as the European Tour heads to Italy for the Italian Open

The European Tour heads to Olgiata Golf Club this week for the Italian Open, which marks the fifth Rolex event of the 2019 Race to Dubai Season.

The tournament hosts a star-studded field that includes major champions Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari, Shane Lowry and Danny Willett, as well as two-time champion Ian Poulter, who lifted the trophy when it was last hosted at this golf club in 2002.

Last year, Molinari (also a two-time winner) came up a short shy of taking home his home Open over Thorbjorn Olesen, who will not be back to defend his title due to suspension.

There’s plenty on the line for players this week, which includes an inflated purse thanks to its Rolex status and Ryder Cup points for those targetting a spot on Padraig Harrington’s European side in Wisconsin next year.

Date: 10-13 October
Course: Olgiata Golf Club

Paul Casey: 9/1
Casey is one of the most in form players heading to Italy. He followed up a T3 at the Tour Championship with victory at the Porsche European Open and finished T11 in his last start at Wentworth. Ranked inside the top 10 on the PGA Tour last season for SG: Tee to green, Scoring average, GIR, SG: Approach the green and SG: Off the tee.

Justin Rose: 11/1
The World No.5 has played twice since the Tour Championship, finishing T8 at Wentworth before a T34 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Ranked 10th for scoring average, 17th SG: Putting and 21st SG: Approach the green on the PGA Tour last season.

Francesco Molinari: 14/1

Shane Lowry: 18/1
The Open Champion returns to Italy after back to back top 15s at the BMW PGA and Dunhill Links. He Leads the Tour in SG: Total, and ranks 7th Stroke average, 9th GIR and 10th putts per round.

Ian Poulter: 33/1
Poulter has a lot of history at this tournament, having finished T8 last year and lifted the trophy twice in the early 2000s, which includes when the event was last played at this venue in 2002.  Heads to Italy after a disappointing T60 at Wentworth but he did have two top 10s and a T31 prior to that at the end of the PGA Tour season. Ranks 4th stroke average, 8th GIR on the European Tour this season.

Erik Van Rooyen: 33/1
Having a very consistent season, Van Rooyen had gone T14-T20-T5-1-T12-T14 before a MC at the Dunhill Links, which includes his first European Tour title at the Scandinavian Invitation. Finished T42 last year. Ranks 19th for stroke average on the European Tour.

Andrea Pavan: 33/1

Thomas Pieters: 33/1
T14 last year, and has been on a good run after picking up his first victory in three years at the D+D Real Czech Masters, going T12, T20, T10 and T37.

Bernd Wiesberger: 35/1
Wiesberger missed the cut at The Dunhill a couple of weeks ago but finished 5th at the Porsche European open and T17 at the BMW PGA Championship before that, and is looking for his third win of the year. Ranks 17th GIR.

Mike Lorenzo Vera: 40/1
The Frenchman T19 in Italy last year and has two top 10s and a T15 in three of his last four starts on Tour, the other being a T37 at the BMW PGA Championship. Ranks 13th stroke average.
