Alfred Dunhill Championship: Betting Tips and TV Times as the new European Tour season gets underway at Leopard Creek

Jon Rahm may have only just secured the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, but the new European Tour season gets back underway immediately this week with the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa. 

It was originally supposed to be opposite the Hong Kong Open, but the other co-sanctioned event was postponed due to the ongoing social unrest in the city, meaning the event at Leopard Creek is the only one on this week. 

Last year, David Lipsky excelled on his debut here to become the first non-South African to win in eight years with a two-shot victory, but as he isn’t in the field this week, we’re guaranteed a new winner of the event.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout: 12/1
Bezuidenhout earned his first European Tour win last season (at the Andalucia Masters), and heads to this year’s tournament following a T12 finish at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. T18 here last year. Ranks 8th putts per round, 37th stroke average. 

Eddie Pepperell: 16/1
After a T6 finish at the Portugal Masters, Eddie Pepperell ended up being disqualified in his last start at the Turkish Airlines Open for running out of golf balls. Making his first start here since 2016 (MC), but was T8 back in 2015. Ranks 26th Stroke average.

Charl Schwartzel: 16/1
Schwartzel is making his return to competitive action after being sidelined since late April with a wrist injury, and though that may make his odds seem surprising, Leopard’s Creek is a place where Schwartzel has always excelled. He’s won here four times (the last in ’15), and has four further runner-up finishes, despite missing the cut last year. This is his first start on the European Tour in 2019.

George Coetzee: 18/1

Coetzee heads to Leopard’s Creek following a T30 in his last European Tour start at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, and recently claimed the Sunshine Tour’s Vodacom Origins Final at the beginning of November. T26 here last year, best of T3 in 2011 and T10 in 2012. Ranks 12th putts per round, 16th driving distance.

Brandon Stone: 18/1
The 2016 champion has two further top 20s in his last three starts in this event, and finished T2 in his last European Tour start at the Portugal Masters, which followed a T26 at the Amundi Open de France. Ranks 29th GIR, 50th Driving accuracy.

Ross Fisher: 20/1
A bit of a riskier bet considering Fisher only recorded his first top 10 of the year at the Turkish Airlines Open (where he finished T10), and is returning to this event for the first time since 2013. Still, he was T3 that year, and finished T22-T33-T4 in his previous three starts. Ranks 25th GIR.

Zander Lombard: 25/1
Two top 10s in his last five starts on Tour, which includes a T8 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge two weeks ago. He also finished T3 here last year, three shots behind Lipsky. 

Matthew Jordan: 35/1
The young English golfer only just gained his Tour card through the Challenge Tour, but he’ll head to South Africa with a lot of confidence after back-to-back top 10s to finish his Challenge Tour season. Adding to that, he also finished 5th the last time he played a European Tour event – the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in September. T56 on his debut last year. 

Richard Bland: 55/1
Richard Bland regained his Tour card after returning to the Challenge Tour last season, and is still searching for his maiden victory after a staggering 448 tournaments on the European Tour. Could this be the week? He finished T7-T4-T15 in his last three events of the season, and has two top 10s here in six starts – although hasn’t teed up here since 2015. 

Justin Walters: 66/1
Heads back to South Africa with two top 10s in his last four starts; A T10 at the Italian Open, and T2 at the Portugal Masters, which he followed up with a T67 in Turkey. T34 here last year, with a best of T18 in 2015.
