Kevin Na eased to his third PGA Tour title by four shots at the Charles Schwab Challenge
Kevin Na began the final round with a two shot lead and remained alone at the top of the leaderboard for the entirety of Sunday at Colonial CC, easing to a four-shot victory for PGA Tour win number three.
It was a solid and agressive performance from Na, who capped off an impressive week with a final hole birdie to finish with a four-under 66 and a winning total of 13-under-par.
Tony Finau emerged as the most seriously challenger to Na’s lead with birdies at the second and fifth holes, but as Na birdied the second and rolled in a putt from 32 feet for another gain at the fourth, Finau failed to get up and down from the greenside bunker on seven to fall further back.
Na added another birdie on the sixth after hitting his approach to around seven feet, and recovered from a dropped shot on seven with another lengthy birdie putt at the next to move back to 12-under-par.
A mistake on the 10th tee led to a bogey that dropped his lead down to two shots over Finau, but it was the smallest margin it would reach for the remainder of the day: Another excellent approach led to a birdie on the 14th, and after Finau closed with bogey-par-birdie finish, Na’s lead would stay at three shots as he headed down the last.
With a comfortable cushion, Na found the fairway, hit his approach to 11 feet and rolled in the putt for a birdie to earn his third PGA Tour victory – and second in as many seasons after ending a seven year wait for a win at the Greenbrier last year.
C.T. Pan got to within one shot of the lead when he birdie the first, but could only manage one more birdie (at 18) and a bogey on the ninth to finish in tied third on eight-under-par with Andrew Putnam.
Jonas Blixt, who had held the 36-hole lead before faltering in the third round, posted a two-under 68 to grab solo fifth place at seven under par, with Rory Sabbatini and Ryan Palmer both a shot further back.
It was a difficult day for local favourite Jordan Spieth, who had started the day just two shots back but found himself unable to recapture his prowess on the greens of the first few days and settled for a two-over 72 to finish in a tie for 8th with Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Knox, Nick Watney and Mackenzie Hughes.
