Henrik Stenson is still looking for a full-time caddie after split with Scott Vail

Henrik Stenson unexpectedly split from long-time bagman Gareth Lord back in November, and replaced him with Scott Vail, formerly Brandt Snedeker’s caddie for 12 years. 

“Gareth and I we decided a little while ago that we were looking at maybe taking a break,” Stenson had said at the time. “so he (Vail) is filling in for the time being and you never know we might be back out there together but for now it’s Scotty that is carrying the sticks.”

But after just six events together Stenson’s search continues.

Speaking to Yahoo, the Swede said that he and Vail parted ways after the WGC Mexico Championship, following the mutual decision that they weren’t ‘the best fit for each other.’ It came after three consecutive missed cuts in 2019 and a T54 at Club de Golf Chapultepec. 

“We had two events on the back end of last year, three in the Middle East and [the WGC-Mexico Championship], and we just sat down after Mexico and asked, ‘How does it feel?’” Stenson said.

“Neither one of us felt like we were the best fit for each other. We are all in good spirits. I really like him, but we just felt like we didn’t connect 100 percent.”

His search for a full-time caddie is ongoing, but for this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitiational at Bay Hill, Stenson will have two caddies on duty as part of what he called a ‘job-share’. 

His friend Marcus Larsson will caddie for him for the first 36 holes, while his former caddie of five years Fanny Sunesson will take over for the following two rounds if he makes the cut. 

“Fanny and I have a big junior event in Sweden and the winners come here,” he continued. “Fanny and my friend are both here for that. We’re doing a job-share inside a job-share.”

And since his first comments hit the headlines, it appears Stenson isn’t short of a few job offers. 

He posted on instagram: “I never thought I’d get so many jobb applications sent to me just by mentioning to media that I don’t have a caddie. These two got the job this week @apinv #pgatour”

Stenson is playing the first two rounds at the Arnold Palmer Invitaitonal with Justin Rose and Bradnt Snedeker, teeing off at at 07:43am (12.43pm GMT) from hole 10.
