Travelers Championship: How to watch and who to back as the PGA Tour returns TPC River Highlands this week

Fresh off his runner-up finish at the U.S. Open, Brooks Koepka heads to TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship as he targets his third win of the season.

Four of the World’s top 10 will be competing this week as Bubba Watson defends the title he’s won on three separate occasions, having overturned the four shot lead Paul Casey took in to the final round last year.

In addition to Watson, former Travelers Championship winners Jordan Spieth, Russell Knox, Kevin Streelman and Marc Leishman are also in the field, as well as Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

Travelers Championship: Betting Tips 

Brooks Koepka: 8/1
Koepka gave his title defense at the US Open a good run, but ended up settling for his second runner-up in a major this year (he won the other one). He did post all four rounds in the 60s, and if he brings that form to the Travelers, he could easily take home the trophy. Four top 5s in his last four Tour starts, and finished T18 here last year. Ranks 4th on Tour for both scoring average, birdie average and SG: Approach as well as 6th for GIR and 7th for SG: Tee to green.

Patrick Cantlay: 10/1
Recovered from a disappointing start to the US Open with a T21 finish in his first start since his victory at Memorial – which followed three top 10s in a row on Tour. Playing incredibly consistently, and T15 here last year. Ranks 2nd for scoring average, 4th SG: Tee to green, 6th for birdie average and inside the top 16 on Tour for SG: Off the Tee, SG: Approach and SG: Around the green.

Jason Day: 16/1
On his first outing with Steve Williams as his caddie Day finished T21 at the US Open, and with four top 10s already this year, he’s expected to perform well. T12 here last year and T18 in 2014. Ranks 12th SG: Putting, 14th SG: Off the tee and 17th for both scoring and birdie average. 

Paul Casey: 16/1
Casey is a two-time runner-up at the Travelers Championship (’18,’15), having lost to Bubba Watson on both occasions, and also comes in after finishing T21 at the US Open. Won earlier this year, and has four other top 10s in 2019. Ranks 8th for SG: Off the tee and SG: Tee to green and inside the top 20 for driving accuracy, GIR, SG: Approach and scoring average. 

Jordan Spieth: 16/1
Struggled over the weekend at the US Open thanks to his approach shots while his partnership with caddie Michael Greller was scrutinised to end up T65, but Spieth did have three consecutive top 10s before that, and comes to an event where he had that famous playoff win here in 2017. Ranks 7th SG: Putting, 21st for birdie average and 38th for scoring average this season.

Justin Thomas: 20/1
Thomas had a great start to the year with four top 10s in his first five starts but then suffered with a wrist injury which sidelined him for a few weeks following his T12 at the Masters. He has since gone MC-T20-MC, and will be hoping to turn around his luck this week. He finished T3 here in 2016, but MC in 2017 and was T46 last year, so this week could go either way. Ranks 2nd for birdie average, 3rd for GIR, 5th SG: Tee to green, 8th SG: Approach and 11th for both scoring average and SG: Around the green.

Marc Leishman: 25/1
Followed up a 5th place finish at Memorial with a T35 at the US Open, and was the champion here in 2012 with two top 20s in his last four starts – so not one to be overlooked. Ranks 22nd SG: Approach, 25th for birdie average and 33rd for scoring average on the PGA Tour this season. 

Bryson DeChambeau: 25/1
After three missed cuts in a row DeChambeau seems to have overcome the ‘neurological damage’ he said he was suffering with following a few bad rounds of golf, finishing T22 at Memorial and T35 at the US Open. He finished T9 here last year, and T26 the year before. Ranks 9th for birdie average and 22nd for SG: Off the tee. 

Bubba Watson: 28/1
Bubba Watson may have gone MC-T63-MC in his last three tour starts, but it would be crazy not to exclude him from having a chance this week given that he has won this event three times (’18, ’15, ’10), and finished T2 in 2012. Ranks 2nd SG: Off the tee but no real stand out stats anywhere else. 

Louis Oosthuizen: 28/1
Oothuizen began the final round of the US Open in third place but fell back in to a tie for 7th – yet it was still his third top 10 in his last six starts. Hasn’t teed up here since 2016 when he finished T17, and ranks 7th SG: Around the green. 

Chez Reavie: 45/1
Reavie finished tied for 3rd place at the U.S. Open, which followed a T14 at the PGA Championship and T18 at Wells Fargo – as well as a MC at the Charles Schwab Challenge. But although he is in form, the drawback is that he has a best of T25 in four starts in this event. Ranks inside the top 30 for SG: Approach and scoring average. 

Kevin Streelman: 50/1
Finished in 4th place in his last start at Memorial, which was his third top 10 in five starts after back to back 6th place finishes at the Valero Texas Open and RBC Heritage. Was the champion in 2014, was T8 in 2017 and T33 last year. Ranks inside the top 30 on Tour for SG: Off the tee, driving accuracy and SG: tee to green, as well as 31st for SG: Approach.

Charley Hoffman: 66/1
Hoffman might have been inconsistent with his form of late, but he did finish T13 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and is heading to a course he consistently performs well at: In the last six appearances here, Hoffman has had three top 10s and no worse T2, T7, T26, T25, T3, T15. Ranks 28th SG: Approach the green.
