‘Lefty’ looking to celebrate fifth win at Pebble Beach…

Phil Mickelson will surely wrap up a record-equalling fifth Pebble Beach Pro-Am victory when play resumes in weather-beaten California later today?

‘Lefty’ (-18) is firmly in the driving seat in the latest US PGA Tour tournament – he’s three shots clear of playing partner Paul Casey (-15) and fellow American Scott Stallings who finished in style with a -6 round of 66.

Unfortunately bad light stopped play owing to a lengthy severe weather – including a hailstorm of all things – delay which battered this wondrous stretch of the west coastline earlier in the final round.

Somewhat predictably Mickelson was keen to continue while Casey, who went into the last round three shots clear, was equally eager to take his chances today and hope for a Mickelson collapse while playing the best two holes of his life at the same time…

Said hot favourite Mickelson: “I have pretty good vision. I can see fine, and I’m playing well so I wanted to continue.”

It was another frustrating final day for Casey, in peril of suffering his fifth PGA Tour runner-up spot with just 18 holes remaining. He also understood Mickelson’s stand though declared “we can’t finish two holes in the last five minutes of daylight.”

Mickelson produced plenty of back nine magic to surge into the lead with three birdies in the first seven holes to accompany a 33 score on the front.

When they return to action, Casey will start with a 3-foot putt on the 16th for par and Mickelson will get underway with a tee shot on the par-3 17th.

Casey, level par for his final round, will be praying for a miracle….and Mickelson justice.
