The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am Preview: Betting Tips and How to watch 

The PGA Tour heads to the Monterey Peninsula for the AT&T Pebble Beach Open in Northern California this week, providing a good opportunity for players to get a good look at the course hosting the US Open in a few months time. 

Headlining the field is World No.2 Dustin Johnson, who returns to the PGA Tour following a successful spell in the middle East which culminated in victory at the Saudi International. Johnson is among one of eight returning champions, including fellow multiple winners Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker.  

They’ll be joined by the likes of Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed and Tommy Fleetwood, while social media sensation and multiple Japan Tour winner Ho Sung Choi tees up for his much anticipated PGA Tour debut.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am: What you need to know

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am is entering it’s 10th edition with the current rota of courses (Spyglass Hill, Pebble Beach and MPCC Shore Course), where players will compete over each 18-hole courses for the first three rounds prior to a 54-hole cut. The top 60 players (and ties) will then play the final round over Pebble Beach – which is also being prepared to host the US Open this year. 

One of the key differences to the tournament is the Pro Am aspect, as celebrities pair up with a professional in a concurrent title race to win the Pro Am side of the event. The top 25 Pro Am teams will make it through to the final day of competiton, even if the professional has missed the cut in the main tournament. 

Celebrities taking part this week include Kelly Slater, Jake Owen, Alfonso Ribeiro, Greg Kinnear and Huey Lewis – among many others.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am: Betting Tips

Dustin Johnson: 9/2
On his way to victory last week DJ posted a course record 61 – which was his lowest in 984 career rounds – and ranked 1st in the event for birdies, par-three scoring and 2nd for par-four scoring. He has two wins and six other top 10s at Pebble Beach (T2 last year), and given his victory was his second top 10 in three starts in 2019, it’s no surprise he’s expected to do well. If that doesn’t have you convinced, since 2008 DJ ranks 1st for low scores in relation to par at Pebble Beach at -103. 

Jason Day: 8/1
Day finished T5 at the Farmers Insurance Open in his last start, with a run of five consecutive top 20s before that. He’s had five top 10s at Pebble Beach which includes a T2 finish last week. Ranks 9th SG: Putting, 11th SG: Off the tee and 12th for birdie average this season. Day is second in the list of low scores at Pebble in relation to par since 2008, at -83. 

Tony Finau: 18/1
Finau missed the cut last week, but it’s not a place he’s ever really performed well at so not a fact to dwell on. This is his first trip to Pebble Beach, but given he’s had six top 10s in 11 starts, he’s not one to be overlooked. He also ranks 5th for scoring average, 6th for SG: Around the green, 11th SG: Tee to green, 15th SG: Off the tee and 18th for birdie average.

Tommy Fleetwood: 18/1
Fleetwood is playing his first event in the US since a T11 at the Tour Championship, and has four top 10s and three top 20s since then – including a T16 at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. May be his debut at this event but Fleetwood is a runner up twice at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is also a similar Pro-Am event played over three courses – only played at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and The Old Course, St Andrews. 

Phil Mickelson: 20/1
Was T2 at the Desert Classic before a MC last week, and has a great record at Pebble. He’s a four-time winner of this event and finished as runner-up both in 2018 and 2016. Ranks 3rd for birdie average and 14th for scoring average on the PGA Tour this season so far. 

Matt Kuchar: 22/1
One of the hottest players on the planet at the moment. With two wins already this season and a T4 last week, Kuchar is playing some of the best golf of his career. The only drawback is that he doesn’t have a great record here (best of T6 back in 2007 but T62-MC last two years), although his current form suggests that could change. Ranks 3rd for scoring average and driving accuracy, 9th for greens in regulation and 11th for birdie average on Tour.

Patrick Cantlay: 22/1
Cantlay might have missed the cut at the Farmers, but four top 10s in a row before that indicate he could still have a good week here. In three starts at Pebble Beach he’s gone T9-T48-T35. Ranks 8th SG: Tee to green, 11th for Scoring average and top 30 on Tour for SG: Off the tee, SG: Approach the green, SG: Around the green and birdie average. 

Jordan Spieth: 22/1
Another former champion, having claimed the title in 2017. He couldn’t improve on an impressive first round at the Farmers and ended up T35, but it’s easy to predict there’s going to be a turning point soon – especially after a better putting performance. T20 last year, and hasn’t finished worse than T22 in six starts here. 

Paul Casey: 25/1
T2 in his last start at the Singapore Open, and excluding a MC the week before had five top 20s in a row prior. T8 at Pebble Beach last year.

Chez Reavie: 28/1
Clearly Reavie is once again in form at this time of year. A T4 was his second top 5 in three starts in 2019. He was T2 at Pebble Beach last year, which also followed a good Phoenix Open. He ranks inside the top 10 on Tour for driving accuracy, SG: Tee to green and SG: Approach, in addition to 19th for scoring average. 

Branden Grace: 33/1
T20 on his Pebble debut last year, and was impressive on his way to a 2nd place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which was his 2nd top 10 in five starts. Grace ranks 13th SG: Tee to green, 14th for GIR and 16th SG: Around the green on the PGA Tour. 

Matt Fitzpatrick: 45/1
Followed up back-to-back top 5s in Hong Kong and Singapore with a T16 at the Dubai Desert Classic. This is his debut at Pebble, but he does rank 2nd on the European Tour so far this season for scoring average and 3rd for both birdie average and putts per GIR.  

Brandt Snedeker: 50/1
Two time champion here and T20, 4th here in the last two years, making Snedeker a good outside bet if you’re looking for someone with course form – despite going T55-T62 in his last two PGA Tour starts. Ranks inside the top 20 on tour for both SG: Putting and SG: Around the green.
