Presidents Cup Top 8 confirmed for each side

Following the BMW Championship, the top eight players for both the International and United States Presidents Cup teams have been confirmed.

The Presidents Cup doesn’t take place until December, but the BMW Championship marked the end of the automatic qualifying spot for the top eight places.

World No.1 Brooks Koepka leads the United States Presidents Cup team standings with current FedEx Cup leader Justin Thomas in second, with Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar and Bryson DeChambeau also making the team.

It presents Captain Tiger Woods with five of the World’s top 10 players but also team that has less experience than in previous years, with notable absenses from Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed from the past few President and Ryder Cup teams. Then there’s the likes of U.S. Open champon Gary Woodland, Tony Finau, and the option for Tiger to pick himself as one of the U.S Team’s four wildcard picks.

The International side, Captained by Ernie Els, features Australian Presidents Cup veterans Marc Leishman and Adam Scott, in addition to Hideki Mastuyama, Louis Oosthuizen, Abraham Ancer, CT Pan, Haotong Li and Cameron Smith. Of those players, Ancer, Pan and Li are all set to make history as the first players from their respective countries (Mexico, Chinese Taipei and China) to tee up in the biennial event.

Both Captain’s have four wild card picks, and Els’s list of players to consider includes Jason Day, Jazz Janewattananond, Justin Harding  Sungjae Im, Byeong Hun An, Si Woo Kim, Corey Connors and Adam Hadwin.
