Wells Fargo Championship Preview: TV Times, Betting Tips
An impressive list of some of the world’s best players head to Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo Championship this week, including Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and defending champion Jason Day.
Last year, Day returned to Wells Fargo for the first time since 2012, and it more than paid off as he captured his 12th PGA Tour victory by two shots – despite battling demons on the course.
This time, Day comes back after overcoming injury struggles at the Masters to post a top-10, while Rory McIlroy tops the list of bookies favourite thanks to an impressive start to 2019.
Below, find out how to watch the PGA Tour this week, and who to back.

Wells Fargo Championship: Betting Tips
Rory McIlroy: 11/2
A T21 finish at the Masters ended a run of nine consecutive top 10s in 2019 for Rory McIlroy (which includes victory at The Players), and he heads back to Quail Hollow after taking the last two weeks off. He’s one of the most in-form players on the planet right now, and has an incredible record here, having gone T16-4-1-T8-T10-T2 in his last six appearances, and also won in 2010. Ranks 1st for both SG: Tee to green and SG: Off the tee, 6th for scoring average and inside the top 20 for GIR, birdie average and SG: Approach the green.
Jason Day: 9/1
The defending champion battled injury from the very start of the Masters and still finished T5 – his fourth top 10 of the year. Ended a six year hiatus of this event with victory last year (his only other start was a T9). Ranks 3rd for birdie average, 4th for SG: Putting, 5th SG: Off the tee and inside the top 20 for both scoring average and GIR.
Rickie Fowler: 10/1
Fowler began the year with victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and has since finished runner-up at the Honda Classic and T9 at the Masters in his last start. Won here in 2012 and was T38 last year. Ranks 7th SG: Putting, 8th Scoring average and 11th Birdie average.
Justin Rose: 14/1
The current World No.2 headed to the Masters with back-to-back top 10s but uncharacteristically struggled at Augusta National to a MC. He returns this week for the first time since he finished 3rd in 2016 looking for his second victory of the year. Ranks 4th birdie average and inside the top 25 for scoring average, SG: Tee to green and SG: Approach the green.
Webb Simpson: 16/1
Followed up a T5 at the Masters with a T16 at the RBC Heritage – his fourth top 20 of the year. Has a best of 4th here (in 2012), but hasn’t cracked the top 20 since then. Ranks 10th for scoring average, 11th for both SG: Around the green and driving accuracy, and 13th for SG: Approach the green.
Tony Finau: 18/1
Making his first start since a T5 at the Masters, which was his first top 10 of the year. Still searching for his first victory since 2016. In three starts has finished T21-T28-16. Ranks 17th for both birdie average and scoring average.
Phil Mickelson: 25/1
Mickelson began the year with a runner-up finish at the Desert Classic and a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but followed it up with back-to-back MCs. Since then, he finished T18 at the Masters. Has gone T5-T18-T4-T4-T11-3 in his last six starts in this event. Ranks 12th birdie average and 27th scoring average this season.
Sergio Garcia: 25/1
Garcia already had five top 10s in 2019 alone when he finished as the runner-up at last week’s Zurich Classic with Tommy Fleetwood as a playing partner. T16 the last time he teed up in this event in 2013. Ranks 7th SG: Approach the green, 16th Scoring average and 23rd for SG: Tee to green.
Paul Casey: 28/1
Everyone was surprised when Paul Casey collapsed on his way to a MC at the Masters, but given that he’s already rebounded from a MC to win once already in 2019, he’s definitely not a player to write off. Was T12 in 2017 at this event and T13 at the PGA Championship – the last time he played Quail Hollow. Ranks 8th Driving accuracy, 11th SG: Tee to green, 13th SG: Off the tee, 22nd for GIR and 33rd for scoring average.
Lucas Glover: 45/1
Despite a MC at the RBC Heritage, Glover has had a fairly consistent start to year that includes three top 10s and three further top 20s. Struggled here the past two years but was T8 in 2016, a winner in 2011 and runner-up in 2009. Ranks 11th for both GIR and scoring average, 16th SG: Tee to green and 17th for SG: Approach the green.
