From Masters scoring history to stat leaders and what to watch out for ahead of the final round
• Francesco Molinari has now gone 43 consecutive holes without a bogey at Augusta National following his third round six-under 66. It’s the first time anyone has had more than 41 consecutive holes without a dropped shot in 25 years.
• Until today, there had never been multiple rounds of 64 or better in a Masters tournament. Today, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau and Webb Simpson all managed to reach the eight-under total for a single round.
• The third round scoring average for the field was until 71 for only the second time in Masters history. The other was in 1986 – the year Jack Nicklaus won at the age of 46.
• Webb Simpson, who shot the joint low round of the day, hit all 14 fairways and also co-led the field in greens in regulation (16/18) with Tiger Woods, Emiliano Grillo and Justin Thomas.
• Patrick Cantlay, who carded the first 64 of the day, led the field in putts per hole average (1.39) alongside Australian Cameron Smith, who posted a three-under 69.
• The hardest hole of the day was the newly extended 5th hole for the second day in a row with just one birdie (Keegan Bradley), 36 pars, 27 bogeys and 1 double bogey.
• The easiest hole, for the second time this week, was the par-five 15th. There were four eagles, 32 birdies, 23 pars, 3 bogeys and 3 double-bogeys or worse.
Heading in to Sunday
• 23 of the last 30 Masters champions were in the final grouping Sunday. Good news if you’re Tiger Woods, Francesco Molinari or Tony Finau
• 94% of Masters champions all-time were in the top-5 through 54 holes: Adding Brooks Koepka, Ian Poulter and Webb Simpson to the list of Woods, Finau and Molinari.
• Molinari is trying to become the first defending Open champion to win The Masters since Tiger in 2001.
• The average world ranking of the Masters champion is 15. Tony Finau is the current World No.15
• Tony Finau has just 1 PGA Tour win so far in his career. The last American to win The Masters having 1 or 0 PGA Tour wins previously was Larry Mize in 1987 (had 1 win).
