Tiger Woods secures Tour Championship

The Tiger is back….

Tiger Woods completed one of the greatest comebacks in golf and sporting history by capturing the end-of-season Tour Championship amidst unbelieveable scenes at East Lake, Atlanta, tonight.

Eighteen months ago the 14-times major winner’s future was in serious doubt as he underwent critical back surgery and slumped to 1119th in the world rankings.

But somehow Woods fought back from the depths and against all the odds celebrated his 80th victory and his first since claiming the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational, a total of 1,876 days.

After sinking the putt for par and a tournament-winning score of -11, an emotional Woods conceded “it was hard not to cry coming down the last.

“It was just a grind out there and I loved every bit of it and in the end it was a case of sucking it up and hitting some shots.”

Woods is now holding down no.13 spot in the world rankings and on the evidence of this form who wouldn’t bet against him edging closer to Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18 major championships next season?

At one point Woods was also in the running for the money-spinning FedEx title but that finally – and deservedly- went to Justin Rose in the end. But it was a close call and only a final hole birdie saw a mightily relieved Rose walk away with the $10m bonanza!

The only downside for Rose is that his short reign as world no.1 is over for the time being anyway with Dustin Johnson again back on top of the pile.

It was an incredible end to the PGA Tour season and Rose perfectly summed it up: “It was a crazy day.”
