BMW Championship Preview: Betting Tips & How To Watch

The third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs takes place at the BMW Championship this week. Here’s how to watch, and who to back…

The final stop in the FedEx Cup playoffs before the Tour Championship at East Lake takes place at the BMW Championships in Pennsylvania this week, after Bryson DeChambeau claimed both the Northern Trust and Dell Technologies titles.

DeChambeau currently leads the FedEx Cup, and with just 70 players teeing up this week there’s plenty to play for as they aim to grab one of the 30 spots at East Lake.

There’s also the small matter of the final spot in Jim Furyk’s Ryder Cup team on the line for players like Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Kisner.

The one relative unkown will be the course, Aronimink Golf Club, which is just outside Philadelphia. It will be unfamiliar to much of the PGA Tour field as it stages this championship for the first time, having last hosted the AT&T National in 2010 and 2011.

Betting Tips: BMW Championship

Dustin Johnson: 8/1

The World No.1 finished in a tie for 7th following an impressive final round at TPC Boston last week, which was his sixth top 10 in nine starts (that includes two wins). He’s a two-time winner of the BMW and has two other top 10s in eight appearances. 
Ranks: 1st for Scoring Average, Birdie Average, Putting Average, SG: Off the Tee and SG: Tee to Green. 5th SG: Approach The Green

Justin Rose: 12/1

Runner up in this event last year is bettered only by victory in 2011, and will come in with confidence after rebounding from an uncharacteristic MC with a 2nd place finish last week at the Dell Technologies. Played well all season, and as a winner of the AT&T National around this course in 2010 and T15 in 2011, it’s no surprise he’s one of the favourites to claim the title.

Justin Thomas: 14/1

Ended a run of a victory and two top 10s with a T24 last week, but is a multiple winner on tour this year and definitely not one to be overlooked. In three starts has a best finish of T13 at the BMW Championship, which he recorded on his debut in 2015. 
Ranks: 3rd for Scoring Average, SG: Tee to Green and SG: Approach the Green, 4th Putting Average and 5th Birdie Average 

Rory McIlroy: 14/1

Two late bogeys left McIlroy in a share of 12th last week, but with four top 10s and two T12s in his last nine starts, he’s definitely one to watch this week as his form on the greens seems to have improved. In seven appearances McIlroy has three top-8 finishes at the BMW Championship. 
Ranks: 7th for Scoring Average and SG: Around the Green, 11th SG: Off the Tee and 12th SG: Tee to Green

Brooks Koepka: 14/1

With three top 10s and a worse finish of T12 (last week’s Dell Technologies) in his last four starts, Koepka is a player with his sights set on becoming World No.1 – and is in the form to do it. A best finish of T12 in the 2017 edition of the BMW Championship. 
Ranks: 4th Scoring Average, 5th Birdie Average, 6th for both SG: Off the Tee and Overall Putting Average, and 14th SG: Tee to Green

Bryson DeChambeau: 16/1

Back to back victories in the first two FedEx Cup playoff events are all you need to know about the form Bryson is currently in, having moved in to the World’s top 10 and currently topping the FedEx Cup rankings. He finished T33 on his debut at the BMW in 2017. 
Ranks: 7th SG: Tee to Green and Birdie Average, 12th SG: Approach The Green, 13th Scoring Average and 15th SG: Off the Tee

Jordan Spieth: 20/1

Spieth has recently been trending back in the right direction, particularly on the greens, and it was just a couple of costly mistakes on Sunday that stopped him finishing higher than T12 at the Dell Technologies. It may be a new course but Spieth has typically performed well in the BMW: In five starts his worst result is 16th (in 2013), with three top 10s and a T13 in 2015.
Ranks: 6th Scoring Average (Actual), 9th Birdie Average, 15th GIR and 21st for SG: Tee to Green

Tiger Woods: 22/1

A disappointing back-nine on Sunday dropped Tiger from inside the top 10 to T24, but with three top 10s in his last six starts he’s still likely to be up there. Couple that with the fact Tiger has played the BMW on five occasions, notching two wins, a T11, T14 and T15 between 2007 and 2013. 
Ranks: 4th SG: Approach The Green, 9th Scoring Average, 11th SG: Tee to Green and 13th SG: Around The Green.

Tony Finau: 22/1

Undisputadable in-form horse, Finau looks close to a win. He’s finished 2nd and 4th to DeChambeau the past two weeks, which are just two of five top 10s in his last eight starts. He also finished T7 in this event last year, and needs another good performance to guarantee his place on the American Ryder Cup side. 
Ranks: 10th Scoring Average, 11th Birdie Average, 13th SG: Tee To Green, 15th Putting Average and 18th GIR

Jon Rahm: 28/1

The ultimate player that blows hot and cold. He has gone MC-T43 in his last two starts, but he’s also had six top 10s and two wins this season, as well as finishing tied 5th in last year’s contest. 
Ranks: 2nd SG: Off The Tee, 4th Birdie Average and Par-4 Scoring Average, 8th GIR and 15th SG: Tee To Green

Adam Scott: 40/1

An impressive final round compounded a disappointing T49 last week, which followed back-to-back top 5 on Tour. However, given his four top 10s and 8/8 made cuts in this event we’re expecting him to bounce back – especially considering he was T3 at this course in 2011. 
Ranks: 6th SG: Approach The Green, 6th GIR and 15th in SG: Tee To Green

Rafa Cabrera Bello: 50/1

Tied the lead briefly on Sunday before slipping in to a tie for 7th, but it was another good result for Bello, who has gone T7-T60-T11-T10-T17 in his last five outings. Was T33 in his BMW debut in 2017.
