Prize Money Breakdown: Record $11m purse for Players Championship

Prize Money Breakdown: Record $11m purse for 2018 Players Championship matches the same purse as The Masters

The record purse, up from $10.5 million last year, guarantees that the winner of this week’s Players Championship is set to bring home $1.98 million – the same amount Patrick Reed received for winning The Masters.

It marks an increase for the winner of $110,000, after both the previous two champions Si Woo Kim and Jason Day received first-place checks of $1.890 million.

While there has long been talk about the event becoming the men’s fifth major, it’s now clear the status of the tournamnet is at least on par with the year’s first major in terms of winnings, with payouts for each resulting spot matching dollar for dollar the positional payouts at Augusta National.
